This is the oldest Hindu temple in Penang. The temple has two facades, facing two streets (Jln Masjid Kapitan Keling and Queen St.). The Queen St. side is more beautiful and open to visitors. It is also close to Little India, where many Indian people live and do business.

Indian temple architecture is well-known for its tower-like structures adorned with intricate sculptures of deities on the facades. Although this temple may not compare in size and detail to the Hindu temples in India, it still features typical architecture. It is quite small and dark inside. There are a few Indian worshippers sitting in prayer. Because I follow a different religion and also saw no other tourists entering, I hesitated and decided not to go inside, just took photos of the outside.

The gods of India can have the form of humans or have animal-headed bodies. 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚 is on the left, with a human body and an elephant head, is the son of Lord Shiva and the goddess Parvati, symbolizing intellect, happiness, and success. 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐧 (or 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐚) is on the right, is the Hindu god of war and the elder brother of Ganesha as well. Visiting hours: 06:00 - 12:00 17:00 -...

I believe the significance of the temple and its holiness. However, there was a guy, looked like a monk who asked us not to step on the granite staircase with shoes on in an unfriendly manner. The entrance to the temple was closed and we were not in the temple. I have been to so many shrines, temples, churches and mosques, i respected all the customs and rituals eventhough I may not agree, believe or like. I shall come and visit Sri Mahamariammam again during pooja time. 12th July, I am at the temple now. Praying to Sri Mariammam. Vegetarian lady god. In charge said no picture of the inner holy sanctum. So I am showing you...

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple offers a vibrant, spiritual, and culturally rich experience, with stunning South Indian architecture and intricate sculptures, though visitors should dress modestly and remove footwear before entering. As an active place of worship, it is essential to be respectful, avoid disruptive photography, and be aware of opening hours, which typically include a midday break. It's located in a historically significant area, making it an ideal stop to explore and experience...

The Sri Mahamariamman Temple or also known as Arulmigu Sri Mahamariamman Temple) is the oldest Hindu temple standing un Penang. With a history of more than 200 years in Penang, the temple is host to many amazing sculptures of Gods and Goddess on the exterior and fascinating Hindu deities such as Lord Subramaniamx Durga and Ganapathy inside. The temple is not too big but during festivals like Diwali and Thaipusam, you will fins thousands of worshippers packing into the temple to make their offerings.
