We got sat quickly, and the server was patient with us to look over the menu. He did check in, but got frustrated when we asked for one more minute. We finally ordered, and the food came fairly fast. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend just based on this. Our server was still a little dismissive of us, however another server saw me eye roti tissu that he brought out. He put on a huge smile, came over to chat with us, ask if we wanted to try some, explained what it was, etc. Based on my experience with this server, I would have no hesitations recommending this place. However, based on the server we got I was a little disappointed. At the end we asked if we paid him and he said yes. Then he motioned as if we were to follow him so we started to get up. Then he put up his hand to stop us, so we sat down and waited again. He came back with the bill, and then we tried to provide him payment. He got frustrated, told us no, and we were able to figure out we had to go to the counter to pay. Overall, I would recommend this place solely based on the delicious, authentic food. The service may be hit or miss, but hopefully you have a pleasant experience.

Restoran Kapitan on Chulia Street is a must-visit for those who appreciate authentic Indian subcontinental flavors. We tried both the chicken and beef biryani, and they were excellent. The use of spices was impressive, bringing out flavors that are rarely found in Malaysian restaurants but are loved by those familiar with Indian cuisine. The chicken biryani had tender pieces of chicken and perfectly spiced rice, while the beef biryani was rich and flavorful. We also ordered the mango lassi, which was refreshing and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness, and the teh tarik, which was well-prepared with a balanced mix of tea and milk. The beef chili was interesting with a slightly sweet taste, adding a unique twist to the dish. However, the restaurant was quite busy when we visited, and the waiters were too occupied to take our order promptly. We also heard great things about the lamb biryani, but unfortunately, it was unavailable at the time. Despite these minor issues, the overall dining experience was satisfying. Restoran Kapitan offers a variety of dishes with bold and authentic flavors, making it a worthwhile spot in Penang.

Kapitan used to be one of my go-to eating places in Penang. Progressively over thr years, their service levels have deteriorated. The best descriptor of their service is indifferent, unwelcoming, and despite an abundance of wait staff on an evening at about 70% capacity, they do their utmost best to ignore you. It felt as if they were doing us a massive favour for us to eat there! Perhaps they are! As for the food, it's barely acceptable at best. We had their Tandoori Chicken with Garlic Naan set meal. The chicken thigh portion was quite small it sort of resembled a quail thigh. However, the meat was flavourful and tender, if a touch underdone. But the portions were on the smaller side. We left unsatiated. As for their tea, it was surprising for an Indian restaurant that their tea looked the part but was totally deviod of any flavour. In summary, if you don't mind indifferent treatment and eat mediocre food, then this is possibly a spot for you to eat while exploring the somewhat Bohemian part of Penang.

this was amazing I loved it that is all jk came here during lunchtime so the rotis weren’t available anymore. we ended up ordered butter chicken with naan (RM14.00 for BC and RM5.00 for the Naan) and a tandoori chicken (RM13.50). We also ordered Teh Halia (RM2.50) and Milo Peng (RM3.SMTH). The butter chicken and the tandoori chicken were so good?? Thick, creamy butter chicken paired with the thick naan was so satisfying. The butter chicken sauce was spiced to perfection, and just the right amount of grainy creaminess (am I making sense??) to catch the divots of the naan so each bite is just LOADED with the sauce. The tandoori chicken was also perfectly caramelised, with a silky exterior chock full of spices and flavour. The meat was tender too and paired well with the rice. It’s like. All the flavours just mingled and made out and LOVE. anyway. food was great. teh halia was cheap and good. all was good price for the tourist location, I’m definitely coming back.

My second visit to Kapitan. We arrived during dinner hour, so it was crowded but have enough tables for us to dine in. We ordered: - a set of double cheese naan - ala carte kashmir naan - ala carte milani chicken The naan was delicious. We tried both sweet (kashmir) and savoury (double cheese naan). I personally prefer the double cheese naan because I am more of a savoury person, but my dad loves Kashmir Naan. The naans were served hot and in outer crispy inner soft texture. As we ordered set for the double cheese naan, it came with a juicy L-shaped tandoori chicken thigh. Well cooked and fanstastic tandoori fragrance! Both tandoori chicken and milani chicken were served hot and tender. Service wise, may need some improvement. We requested plain water from a waiter, but it was never served. And we also asked for an extra plate, but the plate came with stains, not well cleaned. The food has great taste, it would be great if better service provided.
