The Orchid Garden houses up to 800 species of orchids. The garden comprises a semi circle pergola for the climbing and epiphytic variety and a rock garden for the terrestrial variety. The Orchid Garden has an impressive showcase of thousands and thousands of orchids. In this small garden of about one hectare, you will be able to see over 800 species of orchids and a total of 6000 orchids all together. You can also choose to buy pots of orchids back home. The price range differs with the species but they are around RM30 to RM40 per pot. There are two main types of orchids which are the Epiphytic Orchids and the Terrestrial Orchids. The Epiphytic Orchids grows on charcoal, bricks, tree trunk or branches while the Terrestrial Orchids usually grow from the ground. On weekends, you will be able to learn how these magnificent flowers are planted. There are three ways to get to the Orchid Gardens. You can either get there by taxi or by driving there yourself. But if you would like to take the bus, you can take the RapidKL bus number B101 and B112 and stop at the Dayabumi Complex. Walk towards the National Mosque and walk up the hill to the Orchid Gardens. If the train is what you want to take, then hop on the KTM Komuter and remember to stop at the Old Railway Station. Walk towards the National Mosque and the Lake Gardens is just...

They have rebuilt the KL Orchid Gardens: it is less atmospheric than the old one. And lacks the beautiful view from the fountain which is now a grey covered seating area. It’s a good example of computer aided design that neglects the organic and historic way that gardens emerge in a city landscape over decades. Using a bulldozer to create a clean slate results in a more antiseptic look. But there are once again orchids in Taman Orchid and it’s definitely...

I was really saddened to see so many poor reviews of the orchid gardens before my visit, to be honest it almost deterred me from going but I am so glad I went to see for myself. The orchids were beautiful and all in bloom and had the perfect serenity created by the garden was a true highlight. Definitely worthwhile if you’re in the area. Easy walk from the KL bird park, albeit slightly up hill.
