✨ Discovering the Living Heritage of Perak's Chinese New Villages
The Perak New Villages Expo, now happening at Palo 101, brings together stories of tradition, resilience, and creativity from across the state’s many Chinese New Villages. The expo runs until this Sunday.
Across the tents, each village booth offers a deep dive into local crafts, oral histories, and products—from bamboo shoots to heritage soy sauce, handmade peanut snacks, and organic kampung eggs. There are even live demonstrations of tofu-making and traditional grinding tools, inviting visitors to relive forgotten skills.
The exhibition area includes: 📌 Papan New Village with its powerful photographic timeline of mining and wartime memories. 📌 Return to the Village art corner by sketch artist Lucky, showcasing shophouse portraits and family nostalgia. 📌 Mining Nostalgia Booth—where old zinc tubs, woven baskets, and hats remind us of Perak’s rich tin-ore legacy. 📌 Gopeng Community Mapping & Seeds Exchange, featuring local planting guides and village revitalization strategies. 📌 Peanut Economy Exhibit—telling the story of how one man’s peanuts turned into a legacy for generations. 📌 Youth Hallway of Hopes, highlighting returnee youth, their roots, and visions for their kampung’s future.
Beyond showcasing food and artifacts, the expo is a heartfelt attempt to reimagine the cultural landscape of kampungs in the face of modernization and migration. It reminds us that tradition is not static—it evolves with those who choose to stay or return.

Read moreI love this strategic place which convenient with shops around like ED shop, Starbucks and etc until they introduced the car park system which is not friendly to car with side mounted car plate. Their car exit entrance always couldn’t scan my car plate and when I try seeking for help thru the intercom, no one answer! After 5 times attempt call thru the intercom, the guard just asked me reverse my car rudely without further assistance. I went to the Guard House and the guard impertinently lessoned me that I shouldn’t go in the Palo 101 with car plate which is not mounted in the centre and close the Guard House door. He is not trying help at all and means I have to stay there forever? He just asked me to complain to management and that’s it. What??? I have been arguing with him until I need to yell at him to open the gate for me only he willing to leave his comfort chair. I was trapped in the car park for 20 mins because of this kind of laziness attitude of the guard. I hope that Palo 101 will improve the car park system and take serious action towards the said guard. Case happened on...
