The Church of the Circumcision of Our Lord, also known as the Church of the Jesuits or the Church of the University, is one of Valletta's oldest and largest churches. It was initially constructed between 1593 and 1609 by the Jesuit order and is located next to the Old University Building, which originally served as the Jesuit college, Collegium Melitense. After being severely damaged in an explosion in 1634, the church was reconstructed in the Baroque style by Francesco Buonamici. Even after the Jesuits were expelled from Malta in 1768, the church continued to be in use and is also used for Masters and Doctoral graduation ceremonies of the University of Malta, which succeeded the Collegium. There’s an entrance fee. Be aware.

Beautiful atmospheric church My expectations of the church were not special before we arrived. But from the outside it turned out to be historically and impressive. Inside, it turned out to be different from what I expected beautiful and you could almost fell the history - and with a very special acoustic and enormous calm. The church really made an impression on me. And I have a hard time being impressed by churches....

One of the oldest churches of Valletta, with beautiful architecture and mostly a silent and calm place as it is not located on the main tourist streets. Mostly open during the mornings.
