The plan that night was simple: head to Super Aki, grab some bolillos, cheese, and deli meats, and make sandwiches. But fate had other plans. With no bread left, my sister and I wandered around the main square looking for something to eat. By pure luck, we stumbled across Pizzeria Bertilla & Luciano, and it turned out to be one of the most amazing dining experiences we’ve ever had.
My sister is a picky eater who usually sticks to the familiar. Enter Marco, host, server, pizzaiolo, pasta maker, wine enthusiast… and honestly, he felt like a long-lost relative who immediately made us feel at home. He suggested my sister try the San Daniele pizza with burrata on top. She hesitated at first (she had never heard of burrata), but Marco smiled and said, “You came here for an experience, not an everyday pizza you can get from Domino’s. If you don’t like it, I’ll bring you something else.” That was enough to convince her.
For me, he recommended the Porchetta pizza, which he makes himself, along with the sourdough crust; thin, crispy, light, and incredibly easy to digest.
Verdict: My sister has not stopped talking about the San Daniele with burrata. And I’m officially in love with the Porchetta.
For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and the salame di cioccolato. My sister said it was the best tiramisu she’s ever had, and I couldn’t get enough of the salame di cioccolato. When I asked Marco where the recipe came from, he smiled and told us about his grandmother, sharing a story from his childhood that made the experience feel even more special.
It was the perfect way to close my stay in Bacalar. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You...
Read moreMy fiance and I came here twice during our stay in Bacalar. Having enjoyed the food and fast service during our first visit, we decided to return our last night in Bacalar to enjoy the same meal we had previously ordered-4 Formaggi pasta. When the Italian lady (who I believe is part owner) came our table to take our order, my fiance pointed to what he wanted on the pasta menu because he wasn’t sure how to pronounce the Italian word. A few minutes later we were brought two 4 Formaggi pizzas instead of pastas, which we kindly explained to the server. The Italian woman came out of the kitchen and proceeded to yell at us, saying she had made the last two pizzas for us and that we should have specified we wanted pasta. My fiance, who is from Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish, asked her why she hadn’t clarified with us when we ordered whether we wanted pasta or pizza, and she continued to loudly berate us in front of the whole restaurant to the point that I was in tears. She ended up offering us one pasta dish and making us keep on of the pizzas that we didn’t want rather than correcting our order entirely.
The food is great and our interactions with the other servers was pleasant, but I will never go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone because of how horribly we were treated by this woman because of a mistake...
Read more🍕 This is a great pizza, pasta, and fresh bread restaurant.
I'm partial to pasta, I had the valligiana, it was phenomenal. I love the fresh grated parmesano cheese. The noodles are homemade, you can taste the difference. I'm not a snobby eater, but I do love homemade noodles.
We also tried the Luigi pasta also an excellent option.
We left happy and full, we will likely return if a pasta/pizza craving hits before we leave!
🥤 Just as a side note, they do charge for water in a bottle, I'm almost positive it's garafon water in a bottle which turns it into bottled water, but anyway just so you're aware - that's not extremely common in Mexico.
💳 They also charge 3% for credit card processing, which can be 'normal' in Mexico but at their prices there's no reason they can't just raise their prices by 3% and not add the credit card processing fee. It's like free shipping, build it into the price, it makes...
