WOW! What an amazing ‘dam’ experience! My only regret is not having done this on the first day of my time in Amsterdam. The tour was a perfect introduction to the city! Our guide provided the context of Amsterdam, necessary in building a foundation for exploring this dense and lively place. The guide was down to earth and was well studied but not robotic or scripted. He included personal flare, a passionate way of story telling, and asked us questions allowing the experience to be engaging and adapted to our group. He managed to recall detailed facts and wove together the fibres of Amsterdam’s fruition, all while driving a boat through areas allowing us to see the commentary come to life in front of us! He spoke to Amsterdams social context, history, achievements and downfalls. As a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I was enamoured when he discussed the history of a gay memorial, a spot that other guests said their previous tours hadn’t mentioned. The guide did an excellent job of relating Amsterdam to various home countries of our group and managed to weave in storied from WWII, the 1400-1500s, modern day social context of Amsterdam, the economy, architecture, city design, restaurant and activity recommendations. Ina edition: The boat ride itself was a lovely relaxing way of seeing the city: It provided a perspective, unique from that when cycling or walking. I, unfortunately, have forgotten our guides name, but i can tell you that he is from South Africa, has been living in Amsterdam for 10 years, and he moved to Amsterdam for love. Thank you for the passionate and...

Edit to My Original Review - The company has since reached out to me with a very professional and nice response acknowledging my dissatisfaction with our experience and offered to refund the cost of the tour. I hope they have gained some insight into how others may feel. While I love some great jokes and sarcasm as much as the next person, the US political climate might be a subject to avoid in the future.

Normally, I share my opinion both good or bad directly with a company to give them a chance to respond. I attempted to do this twice with this company and received no response to either email. So here is my review I sent to the company for others who might be interested in our experience.

I wanted to take a few minutes to give you our opinion on our recent canal cruise. Our tour was on 9/20 at 2 pm. Our guide commented on how quiet we had been on the cruise and I wanted to let you know why. We were offended by his US political commentary which might reflect the sentiment of some people in the US but not all. He basically called us out in front of the group for not laughing at his jokes and not agreeing with his opinions. Needless to say it was an unpleasant experience.

We were on vacation and were very much looking forward to a pleasant afternoon enjoying the scenery. Instead he made his political thoughts known. We would have been more interested in hearing about the lovely country we were visiting.

I hope this is not the norm for this company but unfortunately it was...

STOP LOOKING - BOOK THIS TOUR NOW!!!!

seriously, don't book any others if your looking around for the best experiance, or price or value for money, because this tour is all of the above! From Ronnie in the office with CoCo the sausage seeking cat...to their amazing Captains like the wonderful Rutger!

I honestly cannot give them enough praise and credit. Not only are they all really great people, but the head quarters office is fun, and a great place to hang out, and well equipt with everything you need, drinks, snacks, hot water bottles and the coolest Merch this side of the A-Dam and loads of maps and info to guide you on our quest to seek the best of Amsterdam! Its chilled and laid back atmosphere, and although tucked away from the rivers edge, its easy to find if you use google maps like they advise on their site and booked tickets, and to be honest, its a brilliant location for getting a coffee or some cake, and their wicked little bar/Cafe is just a few doors down from the office and is also a MUST visit! The office has loads of merch you need to buy as a momento of the best dam tour your going to have in Amsterdam!

Thank you TDBG for the best day and friendly chat and putting up with us for a deadly amount of time while we sheltered...

These Dam Boat Guys were awesome!! If you’re looking for the scripted touristy tour you get everywhere else, please don’t waste your money. If you want some very cool group of people, who are laid back, personable, and will make sure you have a great time, spend the extra money and book with these guys! We stopped by the main office 30 min before and met Jesse and a couple others there. They were all awesome. Went through everything and offered to purchase some drinks before hand. When we got on the boat, we met our Captain Larva. He was a wealth of knowledge and made the experience even better. He asked what we all wanted out of the tour and adjusted it to the groups liking. He opened windows for us (per our request) and gave us all blankets to stay warm and use during a semi chilly night. We learned so much about the city and would recommend doing this the first day in Amsterdam to help adjust your trip. The folks with us took notes of places he mentioned and were going to visit them before they left. At the end, we tipped the captain and then went back to office to buy a tshirt and koozie it was so good. HIGHLY recommended to pay more for this tour than others. We plan to come back with family and do it again.
