Linda Smith I am a 56yr old women retired livining in kinloch . I came down to napier to visit a good friend of 20years. We have always trained together on and off over the years she invited me to train with her. I was going to do deadlifts as my sport is powerlifting but saw there was no barbell jack, bumper plates or olympic plates so I decided to not train as I have a comp and don't want to get injured by using wrong plates etc. I helped my friend instead with squats and showed her how to deadlift AS THIS IS MY SPORT. When we had finished I get called into the office and get told I can't pt. The gym has REP trainers it was a health and safety issue. HOW ARROGANT AND RUDE DON'T PULL THE HEALTH AND SAFETY CARD ON ME!!! I walked into the gym of the street no one asked me as to my health status ability or knowledge of gym equipment .I was given freedom to use all equip. If friends can't help each other then why weren't the two guys beside me pulled up for teaching or correcting each others squat form. BECOMING A CERTIFIED REP TRAINER DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN BE ARROGANT OR MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT EVERYONE WHO COMES INTO YOUR GYM. yes I do know what I'm doing my husband is a previous 2x powerlifting champ and my coach so I do know what I'm talking about that doesn't mean I'm training someone.
I WILL NOT BE RECOMMENDING YOUR GYM TO MY FRIENDS AND WILL BE SURE PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF THE HUMILIATING WAY I WAS TREATED...
Read moreCity Fitness is a great gym with good staff and management. the vibe is generally positive but the overlords from above appear to be ignoring the coal face when it comes to replacing aging treadmills. Here's a copy off my post just now on the FACEBOOK page: Iffy reviews not generally my thing.
'So I'm a member at Napier. Very happy with the management and staff and general vibe of the place but the treadmills are way past their best, constantly returning faults or out of action completely. I don't think the members care that some equipment is older as long as it's well-maintained and any problems are quickly rectified which is the case in the rest of the gym. Time for senior management to step up and replace that line of dinosaurs OR get a team from Life Fitness in to do a major overhaul. This lack of oversight from the top is currently losing people's loyalty to the brand. Just sayin'.'
I don't love our throw-away society and no-one could accuse me of wanting the flashiest stuff since I drive a 2004 Corolla. Difference is, it works just like it did when it was new with a bit of TLC and when it doesn't, it's off to the wreckers. Come on City Fitness. ...

I dont like having to write a review like this, but after my dealings with them, City Fitness Napier seem not at all concerned about your health or fitness, more about taking your money for as much and as long as they can get it. If you join this gym, make sure you are 100% certain you will use it and get your moneys worth, otherwise you will feel like you have taken a loan out off them! I have spoken to many others who feel the same way. Both ex members and ex staff. To be fair, the facilities are excellent though. Its just the way people are treated that leaves you feeling bitter and like you are just a revenue stream to be milked as long as possible. I have since asked to suspend my membership and have received no reply or action so they still taking out full amount each...
