I had high expectations for Smith café, new to Napier and enjoying finding new places, the coffee was fabulous, food ok, some amazing - OMG toast is yum. What I was surprised at, and I don't mind paying good money for good food - but the pancakes were $30 for 3 piklet size, soggy with bacon and had to pay extra for maple syrup!! All staff bar 1 were lovely; however one waitress was rude, spoke harshly to one of our group who got mixed up with his order (he has dementia) - I was so shocked. When I went to explain after, she presented as sarcastic and arrogant, the manager stood by and did nothing. Shame.

First time and maybe a bad day. Ordered coffees which was good. Brunch order took 45 minutes!! which included 2 dishes Eggs Bene and Pancakes with bacon. When it arrived Pancakes where charcoaled. So bad i would not serve them in the dark at home. Three slightly oversized chargrilled pikelets with three small slices of thickish bacon and a dribble of syrup. $18.50 Yeah nah Order 2nd coffees and these ended up having to be to go as they had not been done 20 minutes later. Mentioned to staff they just shrugged their shoulders.

Had a family brunch here! Everyone was able to find something to enjoy. The Under 5s had fries and sourdough toast. Three vegan options: Fried Rice, Granola, and Coffee Roasted Beetroot with Freekah. I went for the Spinach & Cheese scroll with whipped butter. It was a really delicious bread. I also had the Tan Slice. A super smooth caramel filling and lovely walnut and biscuit topping. Family had multiple coffees and tried the Eggs Benedict with Bacon. It looked good and they scraped the plates clean.

This place has gone downhill while it’s prices have gone uphill. Booked a table for 8 adults and two children for 10am Sunday 8th August 2021. Our food order was not taken until 11am. In between that time 3 groups walk in (2-4 people per group) order their meals, have their meals delivered, eat their meals and leave, all before our order is even taken. When I raised this calmly at the counter when paying, the staff member was so patronising I wanted to slap him. He mumbled sarcastically and with disinterest “oh that’s no good” He asked me if those other groups were smaller, as if that was relevant. He said “oh they would have pushed your table to the back because of the size and prepared the meals for the smaller groups. What the hell kind of service is that??? Now to the pricing. $20 plus dollars for 3 small pancakes and if you want 3 strips of 2 inch bacon added just pay another $8.50. Are these people for real??? The two girls that served us were lovely and the chefs were not to blame for the poor service. The attitude of the male staff in this place was arrogant and rude. Never ever going back to this disgusting...

Fabulous experience, great food, excellent service….what more could you ask for? It was a Caesar Salad for me, my favourite salad of all time. Having first tried a Caesar Salad at Caesar’s Hotel in Tijuana, where this amazing salad originated, I have had great, good, average, and, not so good Caesar salads over the last 30 odd years.….this time defo a 10/10, it was delish. I question the need for the mix of mesclun greens being included, I love Cos lettuce, the sweet crunch is what really makes a Caesar salad great. Excellent balance of croutons, parmesan, grilled bacon and chicken. Hubby had the Squid Salad and loved it….he reluctantly let me try some, and I was very impressed so can understand why he was so selfish! Only criticism, nice coffee but needed to be hotter. Awesome daytime Cafe, highly recommend…..We...
