I'm knowledgeable on both nutrition and fitness. Have been lifting naturally for over a decade so have been to many gyms over the years. From old school to new school. This is going to be a very honest review.
First of all lets cover the biggest con that I have not seen anyone here mention yet. THE MENS BATHROOM & TOILET. This is the dirtiest and unkept bathroom facility I have ever seen in any gym. The showers were grimey and didn't look sanitized or cleaned. The toilet had an old smell like it hardly gets disinfected. The dust and dirt accumulation reveals a lack of maintenance. I understand its an old building but this is no excuse. Very poor hygienic maintenance which for me is the biggest con of all.
The next con is the lack of update in machinery. As a learnt lifter I can make it work with what little there is, but the simplist things like no grip handles on dip bars that are torn off. Uncomfortable to use despite being an easy fix. Equipment is outdated which does not bother me, but again the lack of maintenance and care is no excuse.
And the last con of course is the pricing and forced contracts due to pricing. When considering the first two cons why is the price so high? I can go to City Fitness for so much less or even to another gym with higher standards, clean facilities, better quality in machines, more equipment, and all for the same price or even cheaper. I recognize that there are bills to pay but for the last time, there is no excuse what so ever for any of these cons listed in my review.
However, the staff are friendly, the members are friendly, the music isn't loud compared to some modern gyms who have turned there gyms into a night club. Not everyone who works all day wants to have loud drum and bass music drilled into there ears. Some of us just want to relax or train hard with our own music. I guess they have crossfit classes but that does not interest me, you dont need it if your self taught in this lifestyle.
Another pro is the free trial, which is good because most gyms dont offer it, but overall I would not hang around, too many negatives then there...
Read moreI have been going to Golds Gym and Heart of Gold for about 5 years now since recovering from heart surgery. I have meet some super people and made some great friends. The exercises with Raewyn have helped me get to where I am today. The sessions are help on a Tuesday and Thursday, and on those days we are able to use the main gym and some of us go on a Wednesday which is a great help. The gym is the last place I thought I would go but it has been a real help of...
Read moreThis gym is awesome, has everything we need and more. Allows our rangatahi to attend the gym with us. And is responsive to requests. Recently they have been very supportive towards the World NZ Elite Womens Waka Ama trialists. They come from all over NZ and are basing a number of their camps here in Rotorua, before they head to London in August 2022. Very appreciative of continuously supporting whakawhanaungatanga, connectedness and wellbeing in...
