Pilot Bay Fish & Chips — Attraction in North Island

I’m thinking that this place has changed owners. We have loved visiting this shop over the years getting both ice creams and fish and chips. Yesterday, we got both and it was an abysmal experience.  The server was unable to identify the ice cream flavours, asking us to do it for him. The sizing of the ice creams in the past have been one of the attractions. These ice creams were a disappointing pat of ice cream on a cone. The fish and chips took 40 minutes (we were told it would be 15). We ordered a hot dog but got a burnt sausage type object (no batter or sauce) that even the teenagers with us would not eat. Two cruise ships in port, very busy with punters galore! So like a mug I joined the queue and waited my turn to be granted the privilege of being waited upon. There were 4 staff in the shop but only one was serving. Makes sense,who wants to work on a sunny day? The ice creams were very expensive, but you gotta make a living, right? No chocolate, but still plenty to choose from, don't be so picky! And there's plenty of other prospects lined-up and waiting. The only problem, and I don't want to be accused of being critical, but my slight niggle is the ice cream was very soft and melting and dripping even as it sat on the holder while we paid. Recently bought some cheezy weezies only to receive a halfcooked pile of pale soggy chips caked in a blob of mekted cheese and smoothered in a bland white sauce. Case of, shouldve checked their rating first. I suspect the kitchen also joins/serves the ocean sports ckub up front, so i dread to think what garbage they serving there. Case of business occupying a prime location and thinking that allows them to serve substandard product. Another good opportunity squandered by lazy/inept owners.
