Dined at Kage Brickworks along with a friend on Monday, 14 August. We were at the restaurant around 7 pm. We placed our order and once the food got to us we began to eat. Around 8 pm, while we were still eating, a waiter came up to our table and asked if he could clear our dishes. This is all while were still eating and had food left in every single dish we ordered except for one. So we politely told him he could take the empty dish away but we were still eating our dinner. A few minutes later, a waitress came up to our table and told us the restaurant has closed. We were confused as the restaurant's timing stated it was open till 9 (we double checked on google). We hurriedly tried to eat our food, while both waiters stared at us making the whole experience very uncomfortable and unenjoyable. We then proceeded to pay (around 8.10, so very shortly after both waiters approached us cause that's how rushed we felt). While paying, I mentioned to the waitress that the timings of the restaurants stated they were open till 9. She responded by saying, 'because it wasn't a busy night they decided to close early'. It's one thing not to let new customers in because youve decided to close a whole hour earlier, but to get rid of paying customers trying to enjoy their dinner is completely unacceptable. We felt rushed and more over kicked out of the restaurant because the staff felt like they wanted to head off for the night. We were totally shocked by this experience and service. We emailed the restaurant about what had happened but have had no response to date. Can't say I'll be rushing back anytime soon! Your staff need a training lesson in common courtesy...
Read moreI booked a table through First Table and was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but unfortunately the experience was very disappointing.
When we arrived, we were seated at a table but told we couldn’t sit on the couch table. That was fine and understandable. However, things went downhill from there. My friend and I ordered the calamari, which was terrible chewy and with a very odd-tasting coating. We asked for just a slice of lemon to help with the taste, only to later find out that they charged $1 for a single slice of lemon.
Next, the burger and chips arrived with no dipping sauce. We had to ask for some sauce to go with the chips, and again, they didn’t tell us this would be an extra charge ($1.50). Nowhere in New Zealand have I seen burgers served without at least a basic sauce included.
To make things worse, I wasn’t shown the bill at the counter. The person at the till (who I believe was the owner) didn’t smile, didn’t greet, and didn’t even tell me the amount I was paying. Only when I checked the receipt later at home did I notice these extra charges.
Here’s the thing the charges themselves don’t bother me, but they should have been clearly specified upfront. The lack of transparency made the whole experience feel unfair and unwelcoming.
Overall, this was a very sad experience. The food was poor, the service was cold, and the hidden charges were disappointing. Please be cautious if you visit always ask in advance about charges, because even a single slice of lemon...
Read moreHas to be the worst restaurant / cafe in all of Auckland. What a disgrace to poor Brickworks... Came in for breakfast yesterday, thinking "Oh this looks good, it looks yum and good signage". Everything was proven wrong. It was quiet, there was 5 other tables with people however, only 3 of them had food. The other two were being waited on by the two asian men staff (understandable). We came in and waited for a staff member to give us menus and show us to a table. We gave them the benefit of the doubt but were standing for 5 minutes until the CHEF came out of the kitchen to give us a table. One of the staff had come back by this point and didn't greet us, just ran right past us and put in the menu for the other table...
We were sitting down for another 10 minutes and no one came to serve us. The shorter male was "busy" putting in the menus for the other tables into the computer and the other man with glasses was making drinks. Then BOTH of them went to wait on just ONE table. At this point, I was confused because why did both of them need to serve one table? What about my table and our order? We flagged the short asian man down and he rudely put up his hand saying "Wait". Well that's all we had been doing up to that point... We waited for another 5 minutes and watched as a larger group of people came in. And guess what, the same guy who told us to wait went and served THEM!?
Walked STRAIGHT out after that. What a horrible experience. Terrible staff and rude...
