Disappointing Experience at the Upper Gate – Rude Staff

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at the Upper Gate of the city wall in North Macedonia was genuinely upsetting. When I approached the ticket office and politely asked if card payments were accepted, the woman at the window abruptly told me to "go away and come back in 10 minutes."

I calmly replied that I was happy to return later, but just needed to know if they accepted cards before I did. Instead of answering a simple question, she repeated "go away" in an aggressive and dismissive tone, making the entire interaction unnecessarily unpleasant.

Ohri Kalesi’nin Yukarı Kapısı (Upper Gate / Gorna Porta), şehrin tarihi surlarının en önemli giriş noktalarından biridir. Orta Çağ’da Ohri’yi koruyan savunma sisteminin bir parçası olan bu kapı, günümüze kadar sağlam bir şekilde ulaşmıştır.

Kapının tarihi Bizans ve Osmanlı dönemlerine kadar uzanmaktadır. Ancak esas olarak, 10. yüzyılda Çar Samuil tarafından inşa edilen Ohri Kalesi’nin bir parçası olarak inşa edilmiştir. Kapı, kentin yüksek bir noktasında yer aldığından, buradan muhteşem bir Ohri Gölü ve şehir manzarası görülebilir.

Mimari Özellikler Kapı, taş ve tuğladan inşa edilmiş olup, zaman içinde bazı restorasyonlar görmüştür. Orta Çağ kale mimarisine uygun olarak büyük ve sağlam bir kemerli girişe sahiptir. Kapının iki yanında kaleye doğru uzanan sur duvarları görülmektedir.
