The specific solution of the inner space of the building as well as the characteristic opus of building with rich ceramoplastic decoration, enable the church of Holy Mary Perybleptos to be counted among the rarely preserved Byzantine monuments from the second half of XIII century, more precisely 1295. The fresco painting is rich of themes with hidden iconographic meanings. It should be emphasized that in this church the painters left their signatures (ten) for the first time and did not remain anonymous. The frescopainting in this church is the first authentic painting work of the painters Mihajlo and Evtihie and it's the oldest wholesome of the so called Reneiscance of the Paleologists, the last big chapter of Byzantine art. I am not a rich man nor a traveler, but I was still fortunate enough to visit almost 20 countries ranging from Canada to Russia, and Hungary to Uzbekistan. I struggle to remember the last time I paid to enter a temple of God. Out of principle, I did not this time as well.
The very bizarre no photos policy is also due for a change. An old phone that hardly takes any photos should not be regarded as some sort of a weapon. I know they want people to pay the fee to see the insides, and less people would do that if the insides were all over the web, but this kind of secrecy does more harm than good to the image of fine people here.
