If you're looking for a "pointed" experience in the heart of Hocking Hills, the Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum is truly a cut above the rest! This quirky, privately owned museum is a hidden gem that will "draw" you in with its sharp collection and sharpen your appreciation for this often-overlooked tool.

Housed in a cozy one-room cabin, this museum is anything but dull. With thousands of pencil sharpeners on display, it’s "sharp-tacular" how the curators manage to never repeat a single sharpener. Each visit promises to be a fresh "point of view," with new sharpeners rotating in and out of the spotlight.

Reverend Paul A. Johnson, the mastermind behind this collection, certainly had a keen eye for the finer points of pencil sharpening. His passion for collecting has created a museum that is "on point" with its vast array of designs, ranging from the whimsical to the classic. It’s a fascinating look at how something so small can have such a "sharp impact" on our everyday lives.

Maintained lovingly by his family and the Hocking Hills Tourism Association, this museum is the perfect "sharp-stop" for anyone with a taste for the unusual. Whether you're a "sharp-minded" collector or just looking for something to do, this museum will surely "sharpen" your day.

So, if you find yourself in Hocking Hills, make sure to pencil in a visit to the Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum. It’s a "cutting-edge" experience that will leave you grinning from ear to ear and perhaps seeing pencil sharpeners in a...

A cool place to stop by if you're on the road. It isn't really a destination to plan a trip around, but it's got a lot of great tourist information about the surrounding area, helpful staff and clean facilities.

The museum itself is about the size of a large shed. It unlocks a bit of nostalgia for the middle aged set and it can distract young ones for maybe 20-30 minutes.

The visitors center a few feet away from it is actually more impressive than the museum itself.

Best of all it's all free, including kids educational activities and materials.

It's...

This quirky tourist destination is on the top of my list when calculating the ratio of smiles and laughs had to time spent at any museum. It's a quick but fun stop to add to your other travel plans. The exhibit itself displays a wide variety of pencil sharpeners of varying shape, colour, theme and size. They are all neatly organized and easy to view. The adjacent tourist information centre is also helpful with its friendly and knowledgable staff. I will definitely look back fondly on this little museum whenever I think about it for...

Perfectly displayed, this pencil sharpener is located right beside the Hocking Hills Welcome Center. A quick little stop while you get your maps and other information. While there isn't a restroom in the museum, there ARE restrooms inside the Welcome Center next to it. Get your picture taken by the giant Hocking Hills sign, read some interesting info inside the gazebo and note the beginning of the butterfly trail is here as well. All located seconds off RT 33.

I stopped by this museum because it is right next to the visitor center. It is a cute shed located right next to one of the entryways, and it is cool to look at for a little bit to see what they have collected. If i remember correctly, you may have the ability to donate to them if you have a pencil sharpener they don’t have, but i’m not completely sure on that part. Overall, it is a cool stop, and it’s free of charge!
