For the most part the staff was very friendly and helpful with the exception of one staff member. There was an issue regarding not having towels when my husband went to the desk and asked if we could have 2 towels and hand clothes she said they did not have any at thaat time he asked how long and she said a few hours. We waited a few hours and I went back down to the desk and asked if they were available and she said it will be a few more hours. She was not plesant to my husband or myself even though, she did respond with a smile which was fake. She went to the back room and the young lady she was training asked me my room number I told her 103 and she quietly said I will see you get towels. After another confrontation with the unfriendly desk clerk my husband told her that it was not acceptable that she could not produce some towels for us. she said something and he told her to just forget it. When he got back to our room and told me of the conversation I called your cooperate office and talked to one of your customer service reps We paid for our room for 2 nights expecting friendly and a well supplied room. She was very friendly and said she was sorry that we experienced this. The next morning I went down to the desk and talked to Dedria and asked if they had towels and told her of the issue we had the night before. She told me they were short staffed and had no one doing laundry and they were trying to get caught up that is why we could not get towels the day before. Had the first staff member my husband talked to had told him they were having an issue with the towels and explained the situation it probably would have went a lot better. My husband was upset about how she handled the situation and her interaction with him. Any way Dedria did give me towels so we could shower/ Spencer who checked us in on the 6th was outstanding he went well out of his way to make us feel welcomed and Dedria who gave me an explanation need to be mentioned for their outstanding...
Read moreThe room we received was different from what we expected, although, to be fair, it was what we reserved. We thought we were getting a two-room suite rather than one large room with a kitchenette. The layout and furnishings of the room could have been better. There was only one "sitting chair" (which had such a long seat that I could not sit on it and touch both the floor and the back of the chair without putting two pillows behind me. One of the reasons we wanted the full suite was to have a sofa for seating. The lighting in the room needed to be improved. There is no light in the kitchen sink area, and limited lighting in the room overall. The bedside lamps were too low in height to be used as reading lights. There was no place to hang coats outside of the small closet area which had only two hangers. There seems to be adequate room for wall hooks near the door for this purpose. The desk chair was too low to be able to sit at the desk and write, even when adjusted to its highest position. The TV was fixed on the wall and not able to swivel, meaning that the only comfortable way to view TV was from the one sitting chair across from it. Finally, there was a leak in the window/HVAC system when we had heavy rains, and the front desk clerk admitted that this was a recurrent problem. I also think the sound insulation between rooms is inadequate. It was very easy to hear normal level conversation from the adjoining room. The location was good relative to our daily activities. The highlight of our visit was the friendliness of the staff, and their willingness to be helpful. Spencer was the name of the front desk clerk who was very accommodating. To be honest, I almost told him that he should look for a job somewhere else where his commitment to service was matched by management. I suspect that the management of this hotel (particularly on the corporate level) is more interested in cost-cutting than in quality....
Read moreI've been to a few hotels recently and they've been pretty disappointing, but MainStays is not one of them. The staff was so friendly and helpful and always greeted you and smiled and were even willing to have conversations about whatever. They were knowledgeable about the area and very helpful all around. I liked that they sent texts prior to my stay to confirm my reservation and to see if I had any specific requests. Rooms were very clean. Need some more lighting in the larger rooms, but still comfortable and spacious. Bathroom was immaculate and I love that lotion, conditioner, and shampoo were all provided in large bottles attached to the walls. My room had a small kitchen with a hot plate, allowing us to cook our own meals, but on Friday, they also provided a complimentary soup for dinner if we wanted it. Breakfasts were your typical hotel food, but there did seem to be actual care put into it and there were a few little changes each morning. Lots of options as well. Did not swim in the pool, but it is heated. Small, but would be good for the kids. Also, the hotel is a stone's throw away from several restaurants (most of which offered a 10% discount if you showed your room card). Walmart is also very close so you can stock your room fridge.
A great place to stay if you intend to visit Old Man's Cave and explore Hocking Hills. They will take good care of you and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an affordable, comfortable...
