My girlfriend & I were there for dinner on 8/03/2025, and this was our first (and last) visit. When we put our names in, I asked the host if there was any live music on the patio this evening. He said No, so we chose to dine inside. Once we were seated, I ordered a rum & Pepsi, short. All I tasted was Pepsi, no rum. So I asked the server to take it back and ask the bartender to put some rum in it because it was obviously a very weak pour. She returned with the drink and said "The bartender said that he did put a shot of rum in there. Would you like to make it a double?". Now why would I pay MORE money just to make up for the weak pour in the first place? I mean, I'm not trying to get a shot for free, but let's face it -- when this drink is made correctly, the customer should be able to taste a little rum flavor in there, am I right or wrong? Again, all I tasted was Pepsi, so I didn't even end up drinking all of it. Get someone behind the bar who knows what they're doing!
As for the food, it was 'good'. Not great, but good.
About 40 minutes later we were done with our meal and about to leave. My girlfriend went to use the bathroom, and - guess she what she found out.... There was a guy with a guitar playing live on the patio! So, we went out there and learned that this guy had been playing since we had arrived there! How did the host not know that there was a performer there that night?? If the host had the knowledge about what was happening within his own place of business, my girlfriend and I would have chosen to dine on the patio and enjoy the music. This was very disappointing, and there's no good reason for a host to be uninformed about what's happening on the patio.
By the way, this musician was very good! His name is Jarron Sollee. He played acoustic guitar and has a very good voice! We were talking with his girlfriend while he was performing, and she said that they travel around Southeast Ohio, for him to perform at various places. Check him out if you can.
In any case, we won't be returning to this restaurant, unless maybe Jarron Sollee plays there again....but, next time, we'll know to Not ask staff about the live music, and will know to Not order a drink...
Read moreWe were hiking in Hocking Hills, and Maps said Millstone was the best BBQ in the area.
They claim to smoke everything "in house", so that sounded like our kind of joint.
We had our dog with us, so we got take out.
We ordered the Meat Sampler to get an idea of what they offered, and a Cowboy Burger for the dog.
Brisket - pretty bad. If you are expecting "Texas Style" brisket like Franklin in TX, Slows in Detroit, or Harp's in MS... you are going to be very disappointed.
The brisket had an amazing smoke ring, but no tasty bark, or yellow rendered fat. Just dry, flavorless nothing. Imagine an overcooked pot roast.
Smoked Turkey - excellent! Juicy white meat, great texture. Make sure you try this.
Smoked Sausage - really great. The texture of kabasa, with good smoke and spices.
Pulled Pork - really great. This held up to pulled pork from anywhere.
Pulled Chicken - good and juicy. Great flavor.
Ribs - nice "wet" style. Good sauce and the right amount of chew.
Cowboy Burger - great looking sear on the outside, but dang near raw on the inside. Only 1 slice of cheese. I would have sent it back if we were dining in. Tomato was fresh and sweet.
Sides:
Mac N Cheese - kinda OK, but I would not order it again. No crunchy smokey top, no flavor really. Pretty bland compared to most BBQ Mac.
Salad - good. Lettuce was fresh, Ranch was homemade. I know, who would order a salad at a BBQ joint?
Cornbread - excellent! We did not order it, but sure am glad we got it. Mini-muffin size, moist, served with whipped butter. Done right.
Baked Beans - ordered, but did not receive.
French Fries - ordered, but did not receive.
BBQ Sauce - "Open Pit" with some extra spicy-ness.
All and all, kind of a mixed bag, with some great food (and some not so great).
Worth a stop, but be careful you get all the food you paid for...
Read moreIt was my 1st time ever at Millstone BBQ. I should've ordered something BBQ but I saw that they had Smoked Turkey and I Love Turkey! This was absolutely TERRIBLE! Yes I am fussy, I can be a difficult eater BUT I rarely, very very rarely, complain in a restaurant, I almost didn't complain but this was awful! As my side I ordered a house salad, it was impressively large but the sobbing wet lettuce overwhelmed me (and continued to overwhelm me hours later). The Turkey was shaped like, and tasted like, Turkey Loaf. I spoke to the manager and told her that if they were going to serve Turkey Loaf that they need to say that on the menu, I told her I would never order it if it had said that. She claimed that it was not Turkey Loaf but it was Turkey Breast. I say bull! It was shaped like Turkey Roll and it tasted like Turkey Process, it was horrid. Perhaps, giving them the benefit of the doubt it may have been a Turkey Roll labeled Turkey Breast but make no mistake about it, it was putred Turkey Roll! Even the mashed potatoes and gravy were distasteful... The manager took my meal off our bill but still charged us for our pops and for Becky's meal. Thinking about it, that wasn't enough... we came there to eat together, not for me to be given a plate of uneatable mush and to watch Becky eat. They should've comped the entire experience. Becky was satisfied with her Burger and Steak Fries which looked a whole lot better than the slop I had. Our waitress, Sandra, was great! I did not take the terrible experience out on her. Becky said I handled it well. Again I almost said nothing but it was sooooo bad that I had to. I very rarely complain in a restaurant but if this is what they're going to serve - keep in mind - as the holiday approaches - you'll get better Turkey and Mashed Potatoes from a vending...
