The Church on Skałka made a huge impression on me, and without hesitation I can say it is one of the most beautiful places in Kraków. The baroque façade immediately catches the eye, and once you step inside, it’s hard not to be amazed by the interior. The frescoes, paintings, and sculptures create an atmosphere full of solemnity, yet at the same time there is something very warm about it that makes you feel welcome. What touched me the most was the main altar, depicting the martyrdom of St. Stanislaus. It was here, on Skałka, that the bishop of Kraków was murdered by King Bolesław the Bold, because he dared to oppose royal authority in defense of principles and morality. The history of this place truly makes you reflect and adds to its unique power. The Crypt of the Distinguished also makes a deep impression, as it is the resting place of such great figures as Jan Długosz, Stanisław Wyspiański, Karol Szymanowski, Jacek Malczewski, and Czesław Miłosz. Walking among their tombs, you feel that this is not only a church, but also the very heart of Polish culture, still beating today. I also have great respect for the Pauline Fathers. They are truly kind people – open, warm, and always ready to open the Crypt of the Distinguished or answer questions. Thanks to them, the atmosphere of Skałka becomes even more welcoming and special. For me, this place is absolutely unique – architecturally stunning, rich in interiors, filled with history and deep symbolism. It’s worth visiting not only for sightseeing but also to pause for a moment and feel the spirit of Polish tradition.

Krakow - Poland 🇵🇱 The Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel and St. Stanislaus, commonly known as Skałka (meaning “the Rock”), is one of Kraków’s most revered religious and historic sites ♥️ The site is most famous as the place where St. Stanislaus, the Bishop of Kraków, was martyred by King Bolesław II the Bold in 1079 during a power struggle between the Church and the monarchy. His death at Skałka turned the site into a major pilgrimage destination, and St. Stanislaus later became one of Poland’s patron saints. Every year, a major religious procession takes place from Wawel Cathedral to Skałka on the Feast of St. Stanislaus (second Sunday of May), attracting thousands. If you are around Krakow don’t miss this holy place and drink water from the fountain in front of st Stanislaus for cure. ♥️🫶🏻😇

Oh the church offers so much for a spiritual boost. I had a well spent spiritual time with my Lord during Mass irrespective of not understanding the language, lighting candles in different stations and in the garden at the fountain which was symbolic to meeting Jesus at the well. The altars of all the remarkable people my favorite being St Pope John Paul 2 and St Faustina it was a great experience just to reflect on their live and the impact the have on me. Love it to bits as my country South Africa doesn't have settings like this!

Tuż obok Wawelu, nad Wisłą, wznosi się niewielkie wzgórze z jurajskiego białego kamienia, zwane Skałką. Na niej, wśród zieleni, stoi barokowy kościół pw. św. Michała i zabudowania klasztorne oo. paulinów. Kościół uznał biskupa za świętego i kanonizował go w 1253 roku.

Są to: Wincenty Pol - poeta (w 1881 roku), Lucjan Siemieński - poeta (w 1881 roku), Józef Ignacy Kraszewski - pisarz (w 1887 roku), Teofil Lenartowicz - poeta (w 1893 roku), Adam Asnyk - poeta (w 1897 roku), Henryk Siemiradzki - malarz (w 1903 roku), Stanisław Wyspiański - malarz i poeta (w 1907 roku), Jacek Malczewski - malarz (w 1929 roku), Karol Szymanowski - muzyk (w 1937 roku), Ludwik Solski - aktor (w 1954 roku), Tadeusz Banachiewicz - astronom (w 1955 roku).

We found this beautiful basilica within the Karzimierz district of Krakow (Jewish Quarter) along the banks of the Vistula River. This basilica is an impressive example of Baroque architecture that will leave you breathless. This beautiful basilica has been a prominent landmark in the city since the 17th century and is one of the most beloved and revered religious sites in Poland. We were amazed as we entered the basilica, the ornate decorations and intricate details that adorn the walls and ceilings. The basilica is home to several stunning works of art, including a magnificent altarpiece and a series of frescoes that depict scenes from the life of St. Michael. One of the basilica's most striking features is its impressive tower, which was not open to the public when we were there. While you are there, make sure to see the other prominent sites including the crypt below the church (small entry fee), the well of St. Stanislaus, the medieval wall, the statue of Pope John Paul II in front of the church and the adjacent monastery. Finally, we found the basilica’s atmosphere to be peaceful and contemplative, making it the perfect place to escape the noise of the city and find some solace in prayer or...
