An Authentic Polish Culinary Experience at Kuchnia u Doroty
We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation and had to wait about 25 minutes, but it was worth it. We took the opportunity to explore traditional Polish cuisine and were pleasantly surprised by the experience.
Starters: • Chicken Soup with Noodles: 6/10 – Decent taste, but the noodles didn’t feel homemade. • Dill Soup: 9/10 – Very flavorful and well-balanced.
Main Courses: • Bigos: 9/10 – A classic Polish dish with lots of meat, exactly as it should be! 🍖 • Pierogi Mięsne: 10/10 – Generously stuffed and absolutely delicious. ❤️ • Kiełbasa with Onion Confit: 9/10 – Excellent, even better than the ones sold at the Christmas Market in Stare Miasto. We paired it with fries (frytki), which were also very tasty.
Drinks:
We kept it simple with: • Kompot: Refreshing and flavorful. • Mulled Wine (Grzaniec): A perfect choice for a chilly day. Both drinks were excellent – 9/10.
We didn’t try the desserts, but the menu offers plenty of tempting options.
Service: The staff member who served us was kind, attentive, and very resourceful – truly a professional. 10/10.
Conclusion:
Kuchnia u Doroty is a warm and authentic spot, perfect for exploring traditional Polish cuisine. Highly...
Read moreWe was recommended Kuchnia u Doroty, a traditional polish restaurant from our hotel Wielopole.
It is located at 4 Augustianska Street, a 10 minute walk from Krakow Old Town Square.
We did phone up earlier in the day and were recommended to get there earlier in the evening, as it gets very busy! I took that as a good sign👍
Found it very easy, just off the main roads that circle the Old town area.
At 6.30pm when we arrived, it was busy and we sat in the reception for about 10 minutes, when chatting and taking in sights, it passed very quickly.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming, both ladies spoke very good English.
We got a lovely table, with good views of the restaurant. A great choice of food on the menu. The waitress explained in detail about each dish we enquired about, to make sure we didn't get a cut of fatty meat👍 Only the Grilled pork was a different cut of meat. Haha, we are fussy eaters😂
The food was very tasty, good sized portions and great value.
This is a very popular place to eat, as people constantly arrived, had their wait and were then seated😀 Lots of locals eat here, so that's a great symbol to how good it is.
It's worth the walk from the Main Square and better value for money and...
Read moreWe went here after reading all the loving reviews and after seeing an enormous line on saturday. We think it doesn’t live up to the reviews…
Yes, the price/quality ratio is very good. You can easily be fulfilled for not much money. However, the food doesn’t taste that extraordinary/well seasoned. I highly doubt the mixed salad is fresh/home made.
What we also didn’t like, was the fact that - while very cheap - the Kielbasa and the Kotlet Shabowy were just that, only the meat. You had to order extras/additional sides to make your meal complete. With two side dishes per ‘meat’ (greens/salad and carbs/potato) prices range more towards the 50 PLN. We’ve eaten for cheaper and it was more authentic/tasty. In our experience here, you can get a full/complete meal that’s actually authentic/home made for 30-45 PLN.
Again, the food is not bad at all, but it’s very basic. You could eat here for almost nothing, but you get almost nothing. The rest you have to order extra… Also the service wasn’t great, they were nice/friendly enough, but it was hard to catch their attention. Maybe the place is too busy for really...
