After having done quite a bit of tours in other places and countries I know what to expect and therefor what I’m looking for in a company. There usually isn’t a big difference in what companies offer in places like Lisbon that see a lot of tourism, and therefor I always do my research before booking my tours. Respect for the animals as well as for their environment is at the top of my list, always. If I suspect this is not up to my liking, no matter how much I might wanna go out and be on the water, I will not book a tour.
With all that being said, I have done two trips so far with SeaEO tours and I am so happy that I did. Sid is an amazing guide that puts his heart and soul into his company. The team is highly respectful to the animals and their environment. (Multiple times they pulled plastic items out of the water that are deadly and destructive to our wildlife) Keeping a safe distance, checking their speed and angle in which they approach the animals, not overstaying their welcome when the animals seem to say they had enough. All of these points might seem like small things, but to keep both sides safe and happy with the encounter, it is from upmost importance to keep them in mind and stick to these rules. And in adhering to these points I can say I had two amazing trips with dolphins coming close to the boat, seeming just as curious to see us as we were to get a glimpse of them.
With having done some trips and knowing a bit about the animals and such, I was very happy with how knowledgeable Sid was. He supplied a lot of information I barely ever heard mentioned on other trips and I found that he has a way of pulling you in with his enthusiasm and seems to love interacting with his clients.
But next to getting an amazing experience with the sea and its wildlife, this tour offers some amazing sights of the Lisbon coastline as well. Seeing the sights from a different viewpoint is a very nice experience and with all the facts and stories Sid will supply you with, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.
Off course these days we also have to wonder some other important things as well, is it safe now with covid? This is for everyone themselves to judge naturally. But I can tell you that Sid and his team do everything they can to keep up with the safety regulations. Hands need to be disinfected before boarding and masks need to be worn on the boat at all times.
I will definitely be going out with them again and I would highly recommend this company to anyone who would like the chance to go out on the water and see what it is to encounter dolphins in their natural habitat for themselves! 10/10...
Read moreThis is the one absolute must see thing to do in Lisbon - it really should not be missed. Forget the tram rides, museums and even the pastel de nata - this is it. The boat itself is fairly small, but comfortable, and it is low down to the water so you can see the dolphins (or other sea life that might come along) really clearly. Despite being small, we never felt at all unsafe during the trip, although the captain was able to take the boat at some speed out into deeper water. Will you see dolphins? The answer is pretty much "yes". Their success rate is phenomenal. Within about 10 minutes of leaving, within the estuary we came across our first pod of dolphins, and were lucky enough to see baby dolphins that were only about a week old. They were quite curious to see us, and swam around the boat for some time. Our guide, Bart, knew plenty about dolphins and other sea and bird life, and kept us informed and entertained throughout. We headed out into deeper water, and came across two other pods of dolphins, who joined together to hunt for fish. It is hard to describe just how wonderful this trip was, and how incredible it was to see the dolphins up really close. We were also taken past some historic buildings and monuments, and were given some of the history behind them. Please pay attention to the information about warm clothing and bring a windproof jacket if at all possible. Sunglasses also helped to stop the wind out of my eyes. There are no facilities on board, but there are toilets on the docks for use before you set off. This was an unforgettable experience, and I cannot...
Read moreIt was an experience that my wife and I will always remember. We planned it a day after her birthday and we could not have planned anything better. I would recommend this to any traveller who are visiting Lisbon and I have listed the positives below (there were no negatives):
The Crew: SeaEO team is just brilliant - they know what they are doing and are both friendly and professional. They knew the conditions would be rough during our booked time so they offered to have us join an earlier slot ensuring everyone's safety. Our group had kids and the crew made sure they constantly spoke to them and made them feel comfortable on a speed boat. Their committment to their work is another big positive - due to the conditions it was proving difficult to find dolphins but the crew spend additional time in the sea and covered a huge area to ensure we see not only dolphins but also some rare fishes in their natural habitat.
The experience: the whole experience was great and full of learning. The crew took the time to explain how to find dolphins in the sea and we learnt the science behind it. It was our first time on a speedboat and we loved it. Riding the waves, going from one end to another, exploring the sea and trying to find dolphins is a big part of the experience and is as enjoyable as finally finding the dolphins. We had a blast.
The dolphins: Finally, the dolphins! Finding the dolphins after an adventure is a feeling I cannot describe in words. This is something we can...
