This is the center of Bucharest and AFAIK the 0 km from where the roads are measured. It contains a spate of buildings with historical or cultural significance, 2 churches (one very old), a museum and probably the oldest still standing hospital in Bucharest (fortunately modernized). Easy access both by car and public transport, big underground pay parking. It is a relatively safe area during normal hours, at night it can be a little bit spottier due to the close vicinity with the "old center" with it's tens of bars and pubs but no major concerns beside drunken people and a few beggars/homeless people. This square has a particular significance in the popular uprising against communist rule (December 1989) because it was the scene of one of the bloodiest encounters between the unarmed protesters and the riot police/army units which resulted in tens of killed...
Read moreI always pass this landmark on my bike rides and/or commute. Not much to say, it looks pretty good, I've seen it so many times at this point that it's become furniture. Lots of festivals and expos are held here though so id you're a tourist you might wanna stop by. It's right in the middle of the city so you can head anywhere you want from here. At this point I'm rambling on to meet my 200 wrd review quota so bare with me for a bit 😅. You have a metro station in here which interestingly enough was built in secret by the engineers working under Ceasescu's regime who didn't want a metro station here stating something along the lines of "Stundents don't need a metro ride, they can walk by themselves".
