This hostel is off the main square, and made up of two apartments, with reception in the 24h bar. The six bed dorm shares a kitchen and one bathroom with toilet and shower, with a private double room. There is an outdoor balcony with chairs, shared with the other apartment where the free washing machine and eight bed dorm is. The eight bed apartment has a separated shower and toilet. Towels are free.
Washing powder is not supplied, but you can buy a small pack for 3 lei at the Carrefour across the street (on one of the higher shelves). You get a fob key to the hostel door, and there's a key to lock the dorms, but no one ever does. There are lockers in the dorm. There is a pretty comfortable homey feel here, but not that much social atmosphere depending on who stays. WiFi is fast, like it is almost everywhere in Romania. No air-conditioning.
Cons: Beds make me feel stiff. The shower goes hot and cold, and takes a while to get warm again. It's noisy. A lot of young kids hang around outside the bar and in the parking lot in front of the hostel. Noise continues until 3 or 4 am. This may be less of a problem outside of...
Read moreWe stayed in the single room with two beds. We went in july and it was our first time booking a hostel. It was hot. And with hot I mean 38 degrees. No Airco. No ventilation. You couldn’t open the windows because there is a plague of lace bugs outside in Sibiu and the noise coming from downstairs of the pub makes it hard to fall asleep, together with the heat it wasn’t do-able. Slept with a wet towel on me the whole night to somewhat cope. Some guest in the hostel were slightly rude and were claiming the bathroom, which is a shared bathroom with eight other people which is way to much. The shower doesn’t work properly. It gets either quite hot and then suddenly ice cold again. The room smelled like sweat when we arrived. Bed sheets were clean, but the extra cover they put on the sheets for decoration I suppose smelled like sweat and wasn’t washed out. It made the room feel very unclean. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I felt bad for the people who would be sharing the hostel rooms with...
Read moreThis hostel is located right on the large square, it has accommodation and a bar. The accommodation is past a locked door from the bar. It is very simple and has just beds and a kitchen, the guests vary in age. Geea Bar is a very specific and interesting place. It has good coffee and an interesting steampunk vibe with the owner's paintings on the wall, half kitsch half antique and cool. A lot of the people that work there are very sweet and great (Christina is awesome!) although Marius can be kind of cold. I've loved about 70% of the townies I met at the bar, there are artists and expats, real people, but also old guy creeps and habitual drunks that hang out at the bar because it closes the latest. On some nights it's special, other nights I want to get away immediately. And sleep is hard to come by because two nights people sang right outside the bar at 4 am. If you're part of it, it's interesting. If you want to sleep...
