The Council Square, in the heart of Brasov, is the perfect spot for people-watching and a 360° view of the surrounding mountains.

Piața Sfatului, Brașov: Where Kitsch Meets Culture (and They High-Five Awkwardly) Ah, Piața Sfatului! If you're looking for the beating heart of Brașov, you've found it – or at least, a very enthusiastic arrhythmia. This isn't just a square; it's a vibrant, sometimes baffling, tapestry of everything that makes Romanian tourism so uniquely charming. On one hand, you've got the genuinely picturesque scenery: the imposing Black Church looming majestically, the colorful, historic buildings whispering tales of Saxon merchants, and the stunning backdrop of Mount Tâmpa standing guard. It's postcard-perfect, the kind of place where you instinctively reach for your camera. Then, there's the delightful layer of cosmopolitian flair... or perhaps, controlled chaos. You'll see tourists from every corner of the globe, street performers with varying degrees of talent, and an array of terraces spilling out onto the cobblestones. But here's where the magic truly happens: the glorious embrace of kitsch. One moment you're admiring centuries-old architecture, the next you're dodging a giant inflatable cartoon character or pondering the artistic merit of a souvenir stand overflowing with glow-in-the-dark Dracula fangs. It's a beautiful, perplexing dance between genuine historical grandeur and an unapologetic celebration of tourist tat. Piața Sfatului is the kind of place where art and commerce aren't just coexisting; they're in a friendly, slightly bewildered wrestling match. It's got soul, it's got history, and it definitely has a very strong opinion on what constitutes "decorative." Come for the history, stay for the delightful absurdity, and leave with a photo album that perfectly captures the glorious, harmonious clash of cultures and questionable trinkets. It's Brașov, darling, and it's spectacular!

The seasonal arrangement of the Town Square of Brasov is very attractive for turists and local people. Oktoberfest Corona (this is the latin name of Brasov or Crown Town) started on September 1st. Beside the beer and wurst - a cultural market is opened in large tents - books, media, T-shirts with your favorite rock bands, street food, many turists. The local stores are opened 8-20, restaurants 11-24 or by the last client, other fast food stores 8-22. Turist atteactions: Town Hall Museum, the historical houses on town square - all well, inhabited snd with street level shops operational since the XVII-XVIII centuries (of course now they use electricity for about 120 years and proper water distribution and seweege). Three historical churches - all opened to visitors - the Black Church cathedral (gothic style, catholic then converted to reformed evanghelical cult, under the leadership of Johannes Honterus, the lead deacon), the the orthodox cathedral and the old Saint Trinity Church, also orhodox cult, hosting beside the romanians, the greek parishoners. Access is very good by public transport (1.2 USD/fare in September 2022), mostly by electric buses. I noticed the large book shops around (traditional in this central area). Theathers are nearby, many hotels and B&Bs also. Street concerts everday. Each friday and saturday evening - classical german orgue concerts in the...
