We chose it by chance, as all the nearby restaurants were full. It’s located right in the center, on the main square. During the Christmas markets, it’s hard to notice because the Christmas stalls block the view, so you have to walk behind them. The restaurant is small, consisting of two rectangular halls, each with 5-7 tables. It’s very cozy and stylish, with a classic, comfortable atmosphere. The music is good, not loud, and the festive decorations are beautiful. We literally fell in love with this restaurant and came here for several evenings in a row. In January, there were many visitors, so finding a free table is not easy, especially for large groups, but we were always lucky, and a table was found for us. Despite the high occupancy, the guests didn’t disturb each other, and there was no annoying noise. The menu is available in both English and Romanian. Each section has 5-8 types of dishes. It’s very well thought out, with both European and traditional Romanian cuisine. We tried various meat dishes, salads, desserts, wine, and "vin fiert"/mulled wine (our favorite) – everything was prepared quickly, served stylishly, and tasted great. Our compliments to the chef for the excellent dishes! The service is very attentive and caring, but not intrusive. The waiters are mature, professional people. The prices for a restaurant located in a tourist center during peak season are not inflated. A dinner for two with wine will cost around 10-12 euros (200-250 RON). You can pay with cash or card. The final bill offers various options for additional tips. We are very satisfied with everything, highly recommend it for a visit, and hope to...
Read moreWe decided to eat at Resaturant Gustari as the menu offered a wide range of traditional Romanian dishes and was situated on the central square. The previous night we'd eaten at Restaurant Transilvania and thoroughly enjoyed the local food. Unfortunately, the same could not be said in this case. Our waiter, Roberto, was abrupt and blunt, coming across as rude. The music was very loud (and seemed more suitable for a club) and we asked for it to be turned down, only for the volume to go up again 10 minutes later. Unfortunately the food did nothing to redeem the restaurant. The 'baked' peppers were cold and poured straight from a jar into a bowl, still sat in a pool of vinegar, and the beetroot salad was a blob of horseradish sat atop beetroot cubes. The Sarmale was okay, but the schnitzel was pale and very soggy. Needless to say, we decided not to stay for dessert and asked for the bill. We were slightly puzzled when it came, as there was an extra charge for 'Bacsis'. When we asked Roberto, he simply smiled and said 'that's a tip for me' and walked straight off. This would equate to a completely undeserved 15% tip, and so we had to call him back to get it removed. All in all a very disappointing experience, we wouldn't recommend...
Read moreI don't like leaving bad reviews, but I also don't want future customers to suffer the same mistakes I did. So if you do eat here, be careful what you order. First the good ... the atmosphere was nice and cozy, and better than nearby more touristy restaurants. And we started with a very affordable bottle of wonderful Romanian Regno Recas Chardonnay. But the food was another story ... the Hungarian beef (gulas style with dumplings) was the best. But we are in Romania, so we also ordered a traditional lamb & polenta dish, and the lamb was as tough as rubber and I couldn't even chew it. The nice waitress first tried to solve "my problem" with a sharper serrated knife?!?! but she eventually agreed to replace the lamb with a traditional pork & polenta dish. While the pork was more tender, it had absolutely no flavor. Very disappointed with two of their otherwise traditional dishes 😞. I now see other reviews and folks seemed to have liked the traditional sausage dishes ... I should have read these...
