Plečnik House — Attraction in Upravna Enota Ljubljana

It is such a pleasure to share my experience about this great place and people who run it. The museum is full of original and well kept things having belonged to Jože Plečnik, and all of that provides a wonderful insight into a way of life and personal philosophy of the most important Slovenian and one of the most appreciated Europian architects. A visitor is able to choose between regular visit and a guided tour with just a few euros price difference. I chose the guided tour and I have to say all the best about Tea, our guide. She is approachable, full of information and she knows very well how to present them in an interesting way. The tour is guided both in Slovenian and English successively. You don’t need to have a previous knowledge either about architecture, or about Plečnik personally, but in my opinion, it is recommendable to gain at least few basic information, which is quite easy in the era of google. The regular price of guided tour is 9 euros, and I know there is a discount for students and elderly people. Visiting the Plečnik House was one of the highlights of our time in Ljubljana. This beautifully preserved home and studio offers a rare, intimate look at the life and work of Jože Plečnik, the visionary architect who shaped so much of the city’s character.

This little treasure of a museum which is situated in the architect’s own home is an absolute must for anyone interested in architecture and in the life of Jože Plečnik who shaped the face of today’s Ljubljana tremendously. There is an informative exhibition about Plečnik’s life and works which is definitely worth seeing. In order to get a real insight into the architect’s personality and his ideas I highly recommend the guided tour.
