I visited Pri Škofu on my recent trip to Ljubljana and had a most enjoyable experience, after which I will certainly be returning to the restaurant on future trips to the city. It's funny how most reviews mention the chairs... I'd read the reviews prior to actually going and couldn't understand what the big deal was- were these some ultra bitter old people with hyper-sensitive hearing leaving these reviews? But sure enough, immediately upon entering I heard the loud sounds of the chairs against the hard floors- but I couldn't help but laugh as what I'd read about came true. Anyways, onto what really matters and why we're all here, the food... it was INCREDIBLE! A real departure from more old fashioned Balkan food. I really appreciated how they bring more modern (relatively speaking) cooking techniques such as sous vide to the cuisine and really push the envelope with what they do- so many interesting combinations which I never would have thought of myself. I wouldn't call it an experimental restaurant since everything is actually 100% delectable to the traditional palette, however it's still doing some very interesting things. It's always exciting to find a restaurant like this. The waiters were all extremely friendly, professional, and accommodating, most all of them being...
Read moreAmazing restaurant with extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and delicious food. Reservations encouraged, because it's small, but you can probably get away with putting your name in earlier in the day. The roasted mushrooms were excellent, and I normally don't like mushrooms. Pair it with the house salad of mixed greens and you almost won't want an entree, though you'd be mistaken not to go for one. The homemade gnocchi was delicious and not overly truffle flavored like so many truffle dishes. It was much more of a subtle flavor within a larger flavor profile than overwhelming. The gnocchi was also chewy and delicious. The pork medallions with cheese blintz and figs was outstanding. The pork was moist and perfectly cooked with a delicious glaze that paired well with the figs. The cheese blintz were soft and perfect. They melted right into the meat and complimented it well. The waiter was adamant that they had the best mousse and though we were stuffed, we had to try it. He wasn't exaggerating. The mousse was creamy, sweet, and chocolatey without being overly sweet. Even the house wine was incredible. We braved a rain storm for the meal and it was...
Read moreWe had dinner at Pri Škofu on our last evening in Slovenia, and unfortunately, it turned out to be the most disappointing restaurant of our entire trip. We genuinely felt like we were being taken advantage of as tourists, and we were left wondering how this place has received such high ratings. The non-alcoholic "cocktails" were overpriced flavored water (4.50€ each). The starter was perhaps the most disappointing part of the meal. We ordered the "sea food plate"/morski krožnik expecting a variety of fresh seafood. Instead, we received a small plate of chopped salad topped with 3–4 canned anchovies, for 13€! It felt like a joke. Our pasta dishes for 14€ each (porcini mushroom and smoked trout) barely had any signs of mushrooms or fish. We left hungry, frustrated, and honestly confused by the restaurant’s reputation. It’s possible this place was better years ago, based on older reviews, but that’s clearly no longer the case. In our view, Pri Škofu is overrated, overpriced, and unfortunately feels more like a tourist trap than a true local gem. We would not...
