PADI Divemaster Internship:
After lots of research online checking out all Excel’s amazing reviews I decided to contact them to see if they had space for the dates I could do, Michelle was extremely responsive to my messages and managed to fit me in ☺️.
I was greeted by Dave and Minnie “The dog” at the airport and taken to the dive centre to meet everyone, The dive centre is extremely nice, everyone was friendly and welcoming which travelling alone was a worry but I was made to feel at ease immediately and was exited to start my Zero to Hero internship. The included accommodation was in the perfect location just down the road from a lovely beach, lots of local restaurants and bars so always something to see/do/try however if you prefer to stay at home it has a lovely roof terrace for sunbathing with amazing views and a bbq, I shared with lots of other interns during my stay and everyone was happy and loving it 😊 everyone helps each other out with all the e-learning so makes it enjoyable, everything was safe and secure.
When I arrived at excel I had very little experience in diving but had always wanted to give it a try with the help of Becca & Steve “my first instructors” I was like a pro in no time “thanks guys”, over the time I was there I had the pleasure of gaining 14 certifications including 8 Specialities and I logged almost 100 dives! 🤿
My main instructors were Dave, Michelle and Sean who know the diving world inside out they always have a smile on their faces and nothing was ever an issue everything runs like clockwork I couldn’t of done it without you guys helping me all the way ☺️.
The internship includes all the equipment you need for your stay for free, however If your thinking about buying your own equipment to use or to take home I highly recommend waiting until you arrive as you can buy everything from the Excel dive shop while your there at a much better price then bringing it with you and the owners know what’s the best and how everything works. Amazing range of equipment.
Excel have one of the best dive boats on the island and I enjoyed lots of fun times onboard highly recommend getting the extra specialities so you can get out and have more fun.
I managed to see just about everything under the water from Seahorses, Turtles, Octopus, Rays & even Sharks, it’s sooooo much more colourful and full of life then I expected the dive sites are perfect with loads of different reefs. Unlike lots of the other dive centres I saw out in Tenerife Excel mix it up so your not always diving at the same location.
I had the pleasure of meeting and assisting lots of happy customers during my stay and even the PADI bosses came down to present awards to the shop for being one of the best in Europe!
My favourite overall dive was a dive I had in Las Vista the sun was shining the water was crystal clear and it felt like I was flying 😍 I didn’t want it to end that day wish I could do that time and time again. You’ll get to dive the famous ship wreck in Tabaiba which is breath taking I did the wreck speciality so got to go inside and explore on many occasions it’s amazing!
Would just like to say a massive thank you to all the staff, interns and customers for making my time in Tenerife more then I could of ever hoped I wish everyone the best of luck in the future and hopefully will get to dive with you all again...
Read moreWe travelled to Tenerife to complete Divemaster internships with Excel Scuba earlier this month.
On arrival, we were placed in squalid shared accommodation with one pillow between two, on a fold-out bed with a mattress that looked like it had been found in a skip, and a quilt with yellow stains and cigarette burns in it. One key was shared between all the occupants of the shared house; stored in a plant pot outside (on an island notorious for robberies and break-ins). The cupboards in our room were filled with previous occupants' rubbish and former possessions, and the doors were hanging off them precariously. The house had no internet of any description (despite internships being up to two months in length and involving considerable amounts of free time), and was in a remote location over 30km from the dive shop in Playa de las Americas.
Upon informing the owner of the dive shop of the state of the accommodation, we were immediately rebuffed and informed that no other accommodation was available, and that we were the first people ever to complain about it (which may well have been true, but was of no relevance to us). We then asserted that we would be unable to spend two months in such conditions, whereupon the owner proceeded only to tell us how much money we had cost him, and that we should have expected nothing better. I agree with the owner that the focal point of a budget divemaster internship is by no means the accommodation. Nonetheless, I feel that there is no excuse for not ensuring a basic level of cleanliness, security and maintenance for newly-arrived interns.
We left Excel Scuba without having undertaken any diving, and so cannot provide any feedback in this regard. I nonetheless consider it pertinent to leave this review to prevent others who are unwilling to spend an extended period of time in sub-par accommodation from wasting money on a deposit with this dive shop and a trip to...
Read moreI had the pleasure of diving with Excel Scuba Diving Tenerife when on holiday in October 2022. Everyone in the team put their customers first! I would have no hesitation in recommending them and will hope to be back in Tenerife soon, and will definitely be diving with the Excel Scuba Diving Tenerife Team again - hopefully have enough time to complete the PADI Rescue Diver Course.
Highlights of experience with the team: excellent communication with Michelle before arriving in Tenerife, and clear instructions on pick-up times and equipment. punctual pick-up/drop-off at my accommodation every day. highly professional check-in, making sure appropriate forms are completed and insurance is in place (I recently dived in mainland Spain, with no forms completed or insurance checked!!!!). my diving equipment was looked after throughout the holiday and washed every day - totally awesome service, that wasn't expected and never done on my previous 103 dives. El Puertito, Tabaiba - brilliant first day with Sean on the wreck, highly knowledgeable dive master, communication was crystal clear and made me feel totally safe and most important had fun! Visibility was fantastic, and was only my buddy & me. Alcada - Virginia dived at a smooth pace, allowing a relaxing dive around the reef. Again great visibility and marine life. Again only my buddy (Sean's dad) and me. Playa Honda, Las Eras - big thanks to Dave who has considerable experience and knowledge of the dive sites in Tenerife, also gave me good contact information for mainland Spain. Alcada - final day had rough water and low visibility, however, diving with Dave again was a pleasure, as we took our time to enjoy the reef.
Negatives and things to improve? Cant think of any, fantastic 8 dives, with a brilliant team, who couldn't do enough. I had great fun, and was excellent value for money. I hope to see the team again soon!
