Falling in love with street art in Barcelona was a beautiful romance - swift, fun, and passionate! It started after I asked a tour guide for a recommendation for a local art market, as I love hand-drawn postcards and locally made souvenirs. She directed me to Artesvistas, where the intention was to maybe spend 10 euro on postcards. But love can be so unpredictable.
The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly! They painted stories of the art and their creators as beautiful as the pieces themselves. That's how we fell in love with Me Lata, and left with 3 pieces! Being there on honeymoon, my husband and I fell head over heels for their love story, and these bright, colorful representations of their love, which we felt reflected ours and we couldn't leave without.
And then, this Tuike Souza piece was soul-knocking --- asking to be let in so that you can discover its secrets and intricacies. It's delicate hand painted line work was not only impressive but insurmountably beautiful. I first saw lines, then a face, and then how that face was a part of and connected to another face - and it was like when you pull away from something that was too close and it comes into focus! It blew me away. Needless to say we left with this too - a wedding gift to ourselves (way over our budget, but we never regretted it).
This store was everything. Our highlight of Barcelona (along with La Sagrada Familia --- don't get me started!). A must go, if not to buy art that you can appreciate and love over a lifetime, then to speak with the amazing staff who exude love for what they do and the artists...
Read moreI first discovered this brilliant gallery when I visited Barcelona a few years ago. Barcelona is of course a wonderful city,so I try to get back there whenever I can,and I always head for Artevistas to check out what new and exciting artists they've found. I've bought work there by a few artists, including Miguel Leal and Sarmiento, and I LOVE all the pieces I've bought! The gallery always sells work at remarkably fair prices - at least some of the art I've bought there is now worth considerably more than I paid for it,but the main thing is that I have work by some very exciting emerging artists. Eric and Frederic are always very helpful and friendly, and they'll send work around the world if it's too big to go in your suitcase! (Again at very reasonable rates). All in all I would highly recommend a visit to Artevistas in fabulous Barcelona - and I can't wait to return there myself! N.B. The gallery has changed hands since I originally posted this review, so I can no longer vouch for the art and...
Read moreWe stumbled across Artevistas Gallery as we wondered through Barcelona--falling in love with a picture displayed in the front window. It was large and expensive (although very well-priced for the quality and size), and my husband and I weren't quite ready to make a decision. We were also nervous to deal with a business we had no knowledge of involving significant funds and shipping overseas.
We talked to one of the gallery associates, Chimera, who took my email address and said she would email me a photo of the piece as we considered its purchase. Chimera followed through exactly as she said she would. She made the process so seamless and took the fear out of buying a rather expensive item while traveling in a foreign country and getting it efficiently and safely transported. It arrived in less time than expected in perfect condition, and we are thrilled with the entire...
