I stayed at the Fernando for about a week and it was an average experience. When I first arrived I was told that my request for a larger bed could not be accommodated until my 4th night stay. This was a surprise considering that I booked 3 months in advance. So for the first few days I did not bother to fully unpack which was an annoyance. I then was told 2 days later that in fact I did get a larger bed in the room that In already had. I was stunned by the miscommunication but at least I did have the bed I wanted which was comfortable. Unfortunately, I had opted for the breakfast which turned to be served only until 10 am. Considering that I was in Spain this was a surprise. Other places that I had stayed would at least be open until 11am. I did make it once and let me tell you that it was the most basic continental breakfast that you could have. Think basic bread and water with some luncheon meat. Well overpriced at the 8 Euro cost that I believe it was. There are many options in the area which are competitive in price and with much better quality . Definitely skip the breakfast. The room is small but not an issue , as I had expected that. The room came with a safe and AC which worked well but even at a low rate you could hear the fan. Fortunately I brought earplugs which helped. The bathroom had a good working shower and came with basic soap and shower gels. As the TV only has 2 English business news stations I would not use the TV but streamed content. However, the Wi-Fi worked well when it was working but everyday it had glitches and would be down at times. The hotel front staff were very helpful and friendly. Overall the experience was positive and I would recommend...
Read moreWhen I stayed couple of nights in this place it was the most affordable option available, and the location was perfect near the cruise port where I was headed next, and it's also in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and a short walking distance to amazing historical locations such as the 700 years old Cathedral of Barcelona.
For the price I paid it was OK and just what I paid for, but that's not an excuse to be annoyed on my 2nd night and not able to sleep because of noisy and loud people in the hallway after midnight. I had a headache and it was a very rough night which made me regret booking here and thinking to choose a different hotel the next time I visit Barcelona.
The room itself was modest and clean, washrooms were fully renovated and looked fresh. I was unlucky to get a room overlooking the closed backyard instead of the street, but truly enjoyed waking up in the morning to the church bell nearby. The room has a USB port in the wall to plug and charge your device so you don't need to worry about bringing an adapter.
The included breakfast was acceptable, although the receptionist looked at me with doubtful eyes when I asked to get my breakfast at a different time than what I booked because I woke up late that morning. I also got a 10% discount eating at the cafeteria which is used in the morning for breakfast seating.
The hotel also asks you to keep the key with the receptionist when you leave your room, which I wasn't totally...
Read moreA problem arose when I was informed at check-in that I needed to pay a daily City Tax in addition to my prepaid amount to Agoda for the room, even though it clearly showed on my confirmation "Total Charge $xxx.xx Included : Taxes and fees USD $13.19". I received an email from Agoda shortly after check-in stating they'd now been advised of a City Tax and that it was in addition to my prepaid price. Upon check-out I paid the additional tax and since have contacted Agoda requesting a refund from them for the extra taxes since they failed to include it in my "Total". It has been 10 days and I've yet to hear back from Agoda. If the situation isn't resolved soon, I will be contacting my credit card company to facilitate the refund. ||Note: I don't blame Hostal Fernando for the unexpected additional charge, Agoda needs to stand by their quoted price which was supposed to include the taxes and fees.||||Hostal Fernando is in a great location right off La Rambla. Overall the private room with bathroom was fine, except although the sheets were clean, they had several holes. There was good wifi and the continental breakfast was a decent variety of fruit, pastries, cereal, bread, meats, etc along with an automated coffee machine where you select from different...
