We took a guided bike tour in Barcelona and we traveled through Montjuic. We stopped at the fountain and were informed that a very colorful, music themed fountain show begins 9pm and is performed for 2 hrs, with a new show beginning every 30 minutes. This is quite the touristic gathering spot. No joke, at least 1000 people were present for the opening show. When we arrived, the entire plaza - from the top view point of the fountain to BOTH crosswalks completely packed with people. The show is very colorful and very beautiful to watch. The music compliments the performance quite well too with some arrangements that even an American will be delighted to hear (I'll spoil it Harry Potter and Captain America's theme song made surprise cameos).
I do have some warnings to share, however. Because the area is so packed and conjested, leaving the area can become problematic as the foot traffic is really forced one way, also adding further paranoia of being a victim of theft or pickpocket. There are plenty of vendors selling things, such as light up balloons, toys and even some sangria. DO NOT BUY ANY ALCOHOL FROM THESE GUYS! I bought 2 sangria's and it was completely watered down, tasted terrible and eventually, made me vomit. Despite showing up literally at 8:55, you still can maneuver your way to a decent spot. There was literally no one obstructing my pics and recordings.
This area is pretty cool to see in the day as well and I suggest you go early, scope around from different heights and angles for a spot you think you'd enjoy the...

Read moreWe went there for the show with music and lights at 9:30pm. You have to get there about 45-60 minutes in advance if you want to get a good spot, because there are a lot of people. The show took about an hour, there was a good mix of traditional and trendy music, but the music and the fountain were not in synch at all. The fountain and the lights were georgeous, but the music thing was kinda disappointing. As if there was a show done set up with the lights and the fountain and they just decided to play whatever music matched the duration of the show. There is a fountain show similar to this in Budapest on Margit sziget too and even tho that fountain is a lot smaller, it's a way better experience, because everything is coordinated together and it's like the water is dancing to the music. Additional problem with this one is that the volume of the music was really low. There were some street performers a bit further away and their speakers were way louder than the show. And we weren't that far away from the fountain (as you can see in the picture). There were also some weird gaps between the songs, when the fountain was turned off for like a minute, until the next song started. I'd say it's worth to watch it once, especially because it's free and huge, but don't have high...
