Bilbao's main train station was great expirince. Estación de Abando Indalecio Prieto, is a central transportation hub located in the heart of the city. It has a rich history and unique architectural features that make it an interesting place to visit. Here's some notable information:

History Opened in 1948, it replaced a previous station that dated back to the 19th century. It was named after Indalecio Prieto, a prominent Basque politician and former Minister of Public Works, who significantly contributed to Spain's infrastructure development.

Architecture The Art Nouveau-inspired stained glass window in the main hall is one of the station's highlights. It depicts various aspects of Basque culture, including industrial scenes, traditional farmhouses, and the Nervión River. It was created in 1948 by the Spanish artist Javier de Lucarini.

The façade blends classic and modern architectural styles, with elegant stonework and decorative iron features.

Transport Hub The station serves Renfe (Spanish national rail) services, including local Cercanías trains, long-distance trains, and high-speed AVE connections.

It's a gateway to cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and León, as well as smaller towns in the Basque Country.

Location and Accessibility Conveniently located near the Casco Viejo (Old Town), it's an ideal starting point for exploring Bilbao's cultural and historic landmarks.

The station connects seamlessly with Bilbao's metro, tram, and bus networks, making it a key part of the city's public transport system.

Cultural and Artistic Appeal Beyond its transport function, the station is admired for its cultural significance. The stained glass artwork and historical ambiance make it a popular stop for photography and art enthusiasts.

At the station itself there are several cafes and shops for souvenirs and necessities.  The information desk where you can buy train tickets is located in a conspicuous central place.  The police are always present at the station, so the feeling of security is at...

Small enough to get in and out quickly. Had a 7am departure, coffee shop/cafeteria was opened and staff checking me on to the train was amazing even though I had booked my ticket for the wrong day they were fast and efficient in getting me the correct ticket and on my train with time to spare.
