REVIEW IN SPANISH. ENGLISH BELOW.
ENGLISH
The cathedral of Lugo is beautiful and, like many Gothic cathedrals of Romanesque origin, it mixes Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical architecture.
It is elegant and lovely, dating back to the 12th century, although it was completed in the 13th. It was inaugurated in 1129. What you cannot miss is its impressive main altar. It is a work of art that I have not seen in any other cathedral. The marbles and frescoes in a beautiful bluish-green color are striking for their perfection and beauty.
Visitor notice: the complex of cathedral, cloister, and cathedral museum costs €8, and you should consider if it’s worth it. If you are not a fan of sacred art, that €8 may not be worth it for you. They have interesting pieces, but you won’t see anything you haven’t seen before. For me, the main altar is worth it, but if that’s not your thing, it might not be worthwhile. It’s the most expensive cathedral entrance I’ve...
Read moreThis is a magnificent Cathedral with beautiful towers and a magnificent bell tower. The bells are rang on Easter Sunday and on Corpus Christi Sunday. It is possible to enter one of the towers of the Cathedral under special circumstances through the guided tours, which boasts breathtaking views over Lugo. The marvelous work of Architect Fernando Casas Novoa is the Chapel of Our Lady of the Big Eyes, a beautiful circular chapel to the rear of the cathedral, and faces Lugo's Main Square. The cathedral is a must visit. The exterior architecture of the cathedral is spectacular, both inside...
Read moreGoogle indicated (as well as our tourist book) that the visits were open until 19:00 . They closed just as we arrived at 18:30 with the argument that it was written at the entrance (and that we should count a visit time of 45 minutes which we were supposed to know). Didn’t even allow as a Quick look inside despite the confusing communication and having explained the issue in a calm way. A lot of other people were deceived the same way as we were. Pity because we came from afar and we were just here for one day. Hope that this review makes them reflect and adapt their...
