Cines Renoir Retiro — Attraction in Madrid

The service is fine. The cinemas are small compared to those established in shopping centres; therefore they only have four movies shown simultaneously. I cannot give it more stars because the hall where I watched The Oppenheimer film (hall number 4) was very hot. I don’t know why the staff do not turn the AC on in that hall. The ground floor was very comfortable with the AC on, but that floor is only used to buy snacks, the cinema halls are on the first floor. I originally considered going more to this cinema because they offer movies in the original language, the building history and architecture but I doubt it now. I didn’t enjoy the sweating experience. Es un cine para ir al cine. Puede sonar obvio pero dejadme explicarlo.

Ir al cine no es aparcar el coche en un parking, comprar palomitas a precio desorbitado, sentarse, ver una película doblada e irse a casa igual que has venido.

Ir al cine es, en mi opinión, un ritual tan importante como específico. Hay que ir al cine dando un paseo, o en metro, con tiempo suficiente para tomar antes un café (o un vermut). Hay que hablar de cine, de lo que se ha visto, de lo que se va a ver y de la vida en general porque desvariar es un placer del que conversa. Luego hay que llegar a la sala con el tiempo justo porque el vermut han sido tres, cruzando la calle en rojo, viendo los edificios de Narváez en este caso y fantaseando con cruzarse con algún cowboy de media noche que acude a estas salas.

Entrar a ese teatro antiguo, restaurado pero con alma, y disfrutar de lo que sea que se vea. La película es lo de menos. Lo vas a ver bien, escuchar bien y en su idioma original. Que es importante en este ritual.

Al salir, un cigarro para comentar lo visto. O un vaper, o un manolito de la acera de enfrente. Pero algo. No se puede ir uno a casa sin poner verde al director, elogiar al cameraman o dudar de la educación del guionista. Luego hay que hablar del clásico, de boxeo o de lo que sea que toque esa semana. Y dependiendo de la compañía habrá que ir a tomar una cerveza, a cenar o dar un paseo hacia Goya y tomar un último respiro, junto a unas castañas asadas, del ritual que es ir al cine.
