This is a very small church with one of the most beautiful interiors we’ve seen yet. We’ve seen a lot of Goya paintings, but none more beautiful than the frescoes Goya painted here. Goya is buried here and it is only fitting that his resting place is adorned with his best art. Entry is free and you will be asked not to take photos when your free ticket is handed to you. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was not very busy. Since no photos are allowed, we asked if there were any printed images of the frescoes available, and a nice book (only in Spanish) is available for €2.00. We usually make a point not to spend any extra money in places that don’t allow photos, but made an exception here since entry was free. The book is very nice (worth 3X+ what they charge) and has the images of all the frescoes and the history of the place. For Goya fans, this is a must visit. This place is a 20-25 min walk from Plaza de España. We spent 20 min looking at the frescoes in here. This church is...
Read moreBe prepared that they will be closed without any warning on their website or any other place. They are completely disrespectful of other peoples’ time. If you are not in the area do not go out of your way to go to a place that could be closed on a whim with a simple “sorry” sign over their claimed hours. I have no problem with places being closed but if you are a museum run by the city you should have the respect and capacity to tell people. Like I said, they have no respect. This is a place not many would be interested enough to go out of their way to visit and they spit in the face of those that are interested. Hopefully someone takes over and runs it with respect for others. It is a bad look for the city of Madrid to treat...
Read moreFree to go in and worth seeing if open. (Have lunch on a nearby terrace along the river or with views of the river. Then maybe head to the teleferico where you can tid over the dos de mayo cemetery / church / wall featured in that painting.) The works of Goya are really impressive. His tomb is also front and center. Kind of relaxing. Takes no more than 10 to 20 minutes.
Not really a place you want to take toddlers as there isn't much for them to look at, and no place where it feels like you can let them run around. If they make noise, the space is small and everyone will hear and see it, and not the Spanish type space where people will enjoy that. (Though employees were...
