Casa Mingo in Madrid is for those seeking a relaxed yet authentic Spanish dining experience. Known as one of the city’s oldest cider houses, it has been serving delicious food since 1888. The ambiance is rustic and charming, with a no-frills setup that makes you feel right at home. You don’t need a reservation; tables are usually available, adding to the spontaneous, welcoming vibe. The menu, while simple, focuses on quality, and Casa Mingo’s roast chicken is a standout. Perfectly seasoned and incredibly tender, it’s the kind of comfort food that keeps you coming back. Pairing it with their traditional Asturian cider is a must. The cider is crisp and refreshing, balancing the rich flavors of the food. It’s served in a traditional way, which adds to the experience and feels like a little taste of Spanish culture. Beyond the food, the service is fantastic. The staff is genuinely kind, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations, enhancing the whole dining experience. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, making every guest feel valued. Casa Mingo is a great place for groups or casual gatherings, offering affordable prices for hearty, flavorful meals. If you’re in Madrid and looking for an authentic, down-to-earth meal, Casa Mingo won’t disappoint. It’s an iconic spot for locals and visitors alike, and a true taste of traditional Spain.

This is definitely a local gem. Before traveling to Madrid I did some research about where to eat and never came across Casa Mingo. A local friend had to tell me about this place and how authentic and traditional it was. Casa Mingo certainly did not disappoint. The menu is limited, and service is coarse and speedy, unfashionable in every possible way. However, Casa Mingo is about the tradition, about living, even if for a few minutes, the way locals do. The menu consists basically of cider and cider roast chicken, and although there are other items available, like salads, tortilla Española, and chorizo, the roast chicken is the star and the portion vast enough for only focusing on it. Also, the cider is a must have; it is refreshing and you could drink it like soda, so don’t be afraid of ordering by the bottle. The cider barrels, the timber and stone, the roasted chicken, and overall the coarseness of Casa Mingo, make you feel like in a long-gone epoch. It’s quite an experience and is greatly enjoyable. As a tip, although within the dessert menu you’ll find a cider tart and may be tempted to order it, rather go with the cheese tart, it’s way tastier. The cider tart might look like a nice try, but because of its extreme sweetness and meringue-like texture, it gets cloying.

Oh Boy! This is the best seasoned chicken! Juicy and tender. I literally could have eaten a whole chicken by myself, but as a good mother, I shared it with my family (on vacation from The States). Not only is the roasted chicken on point, but the chorizo... OMG! It's excellent. The flavor is out of this world! The atmosphere is casual, friendly staff, and yes, 5 Star Rating for the Food! I do have to apologize, I was so hungry, I'd started eating before I realized I needed to take pictures. I know my plate is not picture worthy, but trust me, the food is wonderful! If you order the chorizo, they will bring you a bottle of their homemade cider. If the bottle is too much, you can ask for a glass instead. The cider is refreshing 😉 by the time we left, there was a line forming outside. I can understand why! Be sure to come early if you can! *One special note: the pricing is different for the food. If you sit at the bar, it's cheaper than sitting at a table. The difference can range between 2 euros to 5 euros.
