A must see if visiting Palma. Lots to see and do, well worth the price. Give yourself at least a few hours to visit and see all the Cathedral has to offer. Very busy especially during the height of the Summer season. For an extra 12€ you can visit the terraces which is very iteresting with the added reward of the breathing views of the bay of Palma and the town's architecture from a privileged viewing point. Access to the terraces is limited to 20 persons at a time, and are on in mind that there os no access for persons with a mobility impediment or children under 11 years of age. A narrow stone stairway with 208 steps can be challenging for some persons. Staff very helpful and kind. A complete day out. These Cathedral has a very fascinating past. Make sure you do some research before as the information on site is somewhat vague having omitted historical data to void upsetting certain ethnic groups. Die Kathedrale „La Seu“ (der Bischofssitz) ist der Heiligen Maria geweiht. Sie ist Bischofskirche des Bistums Mallorca. Nach den Maurenherrschaft begann König Jaume I. mit der Grundsteinlegung 1230 auf dem Platz einer islamischen Moschee. Unter seinem Sohn, Jaume II., wurde ab 1306 von der Hauptapsis her der eigentliche Bau der Kathedrale begonnen. König Jaume II. und III. sind hier auch beigesetzt. Erst 1587 wurde der Bau des Kirchenschiffs abgeschlossen und das Hauptportal wurde erst 1601 geweiht. Die Arbeiten an der Hauptfassade begannen 1852 und wurden erst Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts beendet. Begonnen wurde der Kirchenbau mit gotischem Baustil in Reinform mit den hohen spitz zulaufenden Elementen, allerdings änderten sich die Bau.- und Erweiterungsstile über die Spätgotik, die Renaissance, mit ihren ausgeprägten Malereien und Skulpturen, bis hin zum Barock mit seinen prachtvoll angelegten Ornamenten. Die verschiedenen Kapellen sind sogar vom Klassizismus, also dem klaren geraden Formen aus der griechischen Bauweise, geprägt. Das acht dieses Gotteshaus auch so einzigartig und sehenswert. Die Kathedrale selbst ist 109,50 Meter lang und 33 Meter breit. Das berühmte verglaste Rundfenster hat einen Durchmesser von 12,55 Metern und wird aufgrund der Fensterfläche von 97,5 m² häufig als „größte gotische Rosette der Welt“ bezeichnet. Aus dem 18.
