My experience at the Marino Beach Hotel in Colombo left much to be desired, despite its 5-star rating. While the rooftop area provided a pleasant ambiance and the rooms were comfortable, the overall service fell short of expectations. The staff, unfortunately, were often rude and unhelpful, lacking proper hospitality training. It was evident that the hotel did not meet the standard of a true 5-star establishment, feeling more like a 3-4 star property. One positive aspect was the presence of a mall within the hotel premises, offering convenience to guests. Additionally, the restaurant boasted a nice view, enhancing the dining experience. However, several issues marred my stay. The breakfast buffet lacked variety, and there were problems with reception during check-in, including attempts to overcharge for meals. Furthermore, the view from my room overlooked a construction site, and the elevators frequently malfunctioned. Moreover, the valet service was lacking, with no assistance offered in opening doors. Security measures were also inadequate, as bags and cars were not properly checked. Furthermore, the dimly lit hallways and the tendency of staff to bump into guests during breakfast resulted in spills and inconvenience. Overall, while the Marino Beach Hotel has some redeeming qualities such as its rooftop and rooms, the numerous service shortcomings and operational issues prevent it from truly living up to its 5-star status.

One of the best city hotels in Colombo, and absolutely worth staying at. I highly recommend booking a sea view room. the view is simply breathtaking. The rooms are very spacious, equipped with modern technology, and even feature a bathtub for added comfort. The highlight of our stay was the rooftop infinity pool and restaurant. The rooftop concept is truly next level. Both the swimming pool service and washrooms were excellent. The buffet was also amazing, offering a wide variety of delicious food. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our stay was as comfortable as possible. Their exceptional hospitality even inspired us to extend our stay. Hats off to the entire team for their hard work and dedication! The only minor inconvenience was having to pay for the room at check-in, which is quite normal, but also having to settle bills for room dining or restaurant meals immediately after each service. This was a bit uncommon for us as we’re used to settling all charges upon checkout. Nevertheless, our stay was extremely comfortable and absolutely worth it. We left with great pleasure and no complaints. Highly recommended!

The hotel is located on Marine Drive, offering reasonable rates for the rooms. The spacious lobby creates a grand and welcoming atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable. However, the food from room service and the restaurant is average at best and could be improved. The lounge in the lobby is very much over priced. They sell a Rs 70/- water bottle for Rs 400/-. Unacceptable! The reception area is often busy, and despite having two or three counters, the service tends to be quite slow. A word of caution: avoid using the tuktuks outside the hotel as they will scam and rip you off. For instance, a trip costing 300 LKR on Uber or Pickme was charged at 1,500 LKR by a tuktuk driver. Stick to Uber or Pickme from day one to save yourself from these rip-offs. Additionally, the hotel's taxi service to the airport is overpriced. Instead, consider booking an Uber or using reliable alternatives like Kangaroo Cabs for much better rates.

High tea area is not amazing, just a crowded and packed place, and the view is also not great for high tea. The platter looks good and colorful, but the taste is average. The chocolate cake is too sweet. The sandwiches and pastries were just okay, nothing special. The service was decent, but not exceptional. The seating arrangements felt cramped, making it hard to relax and enjoy the experience. I didn't feel like staying there for a while and left as soon as possible. I think it's somewhat okay for the price of 4300, but I've had better high tea experiences elsewhere for a similar price. Also, we had to pay the full amount with the reservation, which felt a bit inconvenient. Overall, I wouldn't highly recommend it if you're looking for a memorable high tea experience.

3.5 star — Mixed Experience, Great Rooftop The location is excellent, with beautiful views of the ocean and a rooftop pool that’s definitely the highlight of the hotel. The pool area alone is worth a visit — stunning views and a relaxing vibe. That said, the hotel itself feels quite outdated. The decor is heavy, with velvet red hallways, faux gold finishes, and lots of chandeliers, making the space feel dark and a bit tired. The breakfast buffet offers a wide range, but unfortunately the quality of the food is below average. Service is okay — lots of staff around, but not especially attentive or polished. For the price, it’s a fair deal, especially if you plan to spend time at the rooftop. Just manage your expectations when it comes to the rest of the hotel.
