Järnpojken, also known as Iron Boy or The Boy Looking at the Moon, is one of the most charming and symbolic statues in Stockholm. Although it's only 15 cm tall, it enjoys enormous affection from both locals and tourists. It stands a bit hidden in a small courtyard near Storkyrkan (Stockholm Cathedral), which gives it a kind of magical character.

It was created by Liss Eriksson in 1967 and has since gained an almost legendary status. People often leave coins by the statue for good luck, and in winter, it's sometimes dressed with tiny hats and scarves. It might seem like a small thing — a little figure sitting alone on a stone — yet it moves people, because it stirs simple, human emotions: melancholy, tenderness, reflection on loneliness, and hope.

If you touch Iron Boy’s head or leave a coin beside him, it will bring you good luck. That’s why you’ll often see coins left by visitors, and in winter, locals sometimes dress him in tiny hats and scarves to keep him warm — a small, heartwarming...

Järnpojke (Iron Boy) is the smallest public monument of Stockholm. The monument is located in the Gamla Stan (old town). The monument was created by Liss Eriksson in 1954 and it’s a very small iron statue of a boy sitting down, hugging his knees. It measures 5.9 inches/15cm – it is so small that one an miss it. The monument is located behind the Finnish Church located at Slottsbacken 2B-C, 111 30 Stockholm, Sweden. It is 2 min walk east of Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) or 2 min walk south of the Royal Palace. The garden next to the monument is so relaxing esp. if there are few...

After taking a long tour around the Royal Palace, we took a walk in one of those narrow streets to get more familiar with the neighborhood. Found this little, hidden court surrounded by buildings and tall trees. And there was this little statue of the boy looking up. Come to find out that it is a boy looking at the moon. It is the smallest public statue in Sweden. We stayed there for a little bit to enjoy the shade and this place's calm and quiet atmosphere. Great...
