Walking around Old Town Stockholm, we ended up at Ebenist for dinner as it was the only place we could find that would accommodate us without a reservation. As it was our first meal in Sweden, we ordered more "traditional fare" but according to the locals we talked to, no one really eats traditional food much anymore... It's more for tourists. Nonetheless, we had to give it a go. As an appetizer, we had the Reindeer Tartare (175 SEK). With smoked egg yolk creme, it was creamy and tender. Flavourwise, I found it very mild (much like beef tartare) and not gamey in the least. It was seasoned well with black pepper and watercress vinaigrette. The puffed wild rice added a nice chewy texture (almost like bacon bits) to the dish. We also had the Reindeer entrée (335 SEK). Considering the price, I found it to be quite small with only three slices of meat. The meat itself was cooked to a medium rare and was tender. It paired well with the tart pickled beer onions, crisp diced apples, chopped hazelnuts and vinegar jus. The sautéed kale was a great touch and added some earthy flavours. The Swedish Meatballs (215 SEK) were fairly large in size and were covered with a delicious gravy creme sauce. The lingon berries and pickled cucumber added a bright splash of flavour and the potato purée was good. Finally, the Grilled Artic Char (285 SEK) was nicely cooked with a crispy skin and moist meat. It was accompanied by a fennel and citrus salad with herbs and olive oil. The salad was mediocre. I found the spiralized veggies to be a little too thick. It was refreshing but lacked flavour. Overall, I found the food good but not spectacular. The ambiance is very nice and had we been given a table in the patio, overlooking the square, I suspect it would have been even nicer. Service was friendly but slow. It took a long time for our mains to arrive which was unfortunate given that we were already really hungry when we arrived. Food was pricey.

TL;DR : go eat there it's great, beautiful and food is excellent. Detailled version : Probably one of the best place to go in Gamla Stan, either for a drink or to eat. We went to eat dinner with my girl, we were a bit late and the kitchen was probably going to close but they opened for us anyway. About the service, very polite and friendly. Because it was dark outside the place was super cosy and the jazzy music made it really laid back. But now to the most important thing : the food. Damn it was good; we took cheesy balls with oignons it was a really really good snack, and as the main course, I took the classic swedish delicacy "Swedish meatball with purée" 5/5 would eat again. Everything was delicious, my girlfriend said she loved her rib eye. The price was fair for such a good performance.

My dining experience was absolutely delightful. The warm and inviting atmosphere, paired with the authentic Swedish cuisine, made for an unforgettable evening. The dishes were both beautifully presented and incredibly flavorful, capturing the essence of traditional Swedish flavors. What truly elevated our experience was the exceptional service from Alex. Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, Alex made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. His recommendations were spot on, guiding us through the menu and ensuring we had the perfect meal. Alex's warm demeanor and professionalism added a personal touch to our dining experience, making it all the more enjoyable. If you're looking for a place with outstanding food and service, I highly recommend them. We can't wait to return!

There was not much comotion in the restaurant when I and my friend was there due to the current lockdown. We were greeted by a kind waiter when we arrived and were seated in their main dining room which was nicely furnished. The waiter gave us their menu and announced that none of their dishes expect the pizzas were available to order due to current situation. However, there was no notice about this when we booked the table. The waiter seemed a little uncomfortable about this, maybe embarrassed, but since we were hungry we did not mind that much and ordered a Charcuterie board to share for starters and one pizza each. After a little while the waiter serves our starter, but this does not look anything of what you would expect of a Charcuterie board for 220 SEK to look like: some salamis, serano ham and swedish Västerbotten cheese accompanied by pita bread and pickles (evidently from a jar) in a small bowl. All of the "meat" was just something that came from a package you can buy in a local store. Very cheap indeed, and some of it tasted funny, like it had been in the fridge for some time.

It took about an hour for us to get our pizzas, which were clearly undercooked with the dough still being, well, doughy. The presentation was sad, again not something you expect when you buy a pizza for 240 SEK (!). My friend's pizza had sprinkles of black cabbage, however these tasted like metal (which happens if you prepare this food in advance and leave it in the fridge). We did not finish our meals for obvious reasons.

I called and the waiter and he got us out check. Again he did not look comfartable, seeing all the food we left, probably knowing the restaurant was a scam, so he left the room while we were paying. Understandable I guess, but he could have at least asked us what was wrong. When we had payed he looked at us and said "I am sorry you guys" and left the room. I will give the minimum 1 star for this restaurant. It is a tourist trap and a scam. The waiter was nice though and cannot be blamed for the bad...

Tried the "special" Plura Christmas Buffe. What a disappointment. Hugely overpriced for the quality and assortment. First of all there where absolutely nothing special about this buffe. A rather small traditional buffe with lower quality than many others I tried this year. Watery and tasteless "Jansson", meatballs that hadn't touched salt or pepper, pickled herring that wasn't cut, out of x-mas beer, only one type of mustard, etc. etc.

Just the oddasity to charge 110sek for one beer must be a record. I absolutely do not mind paying for quality but this was almost a scam.

Comparing with a buffe I was at the week before (that was a magnitude better and cheaper) just the cold cut section at that place was larger then the entire buffe here.

The desert section was mainly for kids. Mainly unwrapped cheap candy! Cant help thinking about paying 800 for cheap candy ..

Which brings me to my next large complain apparently they had not heard of Covid19. Different parties sitting back to back. The buffe tables so tight that you literally was pressed to other people.

Even their booking terms was the worst I ever seen. Any cancellation later than 15 (!) days no matter what would be charged roughly 60%

Do yourself a favor...
