Mosesbrunnen — Attraction in Bern

Located in the heart of Bern's Old Town and directly in front of the city’s cathedral, this picturesque fountain is the eighth of 11 iconic figurine fountains dating back to the 16th century you'll encounter on your zigzag fountain discovery tour starting from the city's train station. ⛲️

As the fountain’s name implies, the statue depicts Moses delivering the Ten Commandments to the Tribes of Israel. He is portrayed with two groups of rays of light emanating from his head, symbolizing the radiant glow that appeared on his face after meeting with God. ✨

Once there, make sure to visit the cathedral and climb its 312 steps to the tower gallery at a height of 64 meters. The panorama of the old city and the majestic Alps won’t disappoint you! ⛪️

The Mosesbrunnen (Moses Fountain) is a fountain on Münsterplatz in the Old City of Bern. The statue dates from 1544. After storm damage it was rebuilt in 1790-1791. The Louis XVI style basin was designed by Niklaus Sprüngli. The statue represents Moses bringing the Ten Commandments to the Tribes of Israel. Если делать фото собора на фоне фонтана, то Моисей стоит спиной. Знаменитые бернские фонтаны 16 века - это не фонтаны в современном понимании, а артезианские скважины, источники питьевой воды. В Берне все фонтаны называют Brunnen, что в переводе с немецкого означает и фонтан, и источник. В Средние века фонтаны были деревянными. А в 16 веке их стали украшать каменными фигурами. Моисей держит в левой руке раскрытую книгу с десятью заповедями, а правой рукой указывает на заповедь «не сотвори себе кумира» - так утверждают знатоки. Но мы, как не старались, не смогли увидеть текст с десятью заповедями. Первый фонтан с фигурой Моисея поставили на месте скважины летом 1544 года. Прошло двести лет и скульптура настолько обветшала, что ее сняли. Нынешнюю фигуру Моисея выполнил Николаус Шпоррер ( Nikolaus Sporrer) из Констанца и она стоит на площади с 1791 года. В большинстве своем на улицах Берна выставлены копии, а оригиналы 16 века хранятся в Историческом музее. Выглядят оригиналы не так эффектно, потому что в большинстве своем они одноцветные.
