Casino Bern — Restaurant in Bern

I’m not happy to be writing such a negative review about one of the few gems that Bern has to offer but unfortunately it’s not the first time I have been extremely let down by their poorly trained staff and their attention to detail. In the years I have been occasionally visiting and there has only ever been one member of the team who is actively looking around and doing an above par job while the rest seem to have been found in an institute. I regularly visit in the morning with friends up to groups of four and only have had to reserve a table in the lounge a handful of times, the space is amazing and feels like it transports you to a different world as all high class properties should, but unfortunately the staff quickly make you snap back to reality when they completely ignore your existence, take forever to make an order for a coffee and what seems like an eternity to be brought out to you. Another positive point is their amazing pastries, I have never eaten such amazing pain au chocolats in my life but you basically have to be there the second they open as they hardly make enough pasties to last them until 9:45am. This brings me to the reason I’m writing this, yesterday morning before starting a busy shift in my restaurant I brought a new coworker to quickly go for a coffee and a gipfeli. Once we made our way to a table without being acknowledged we waited a good 10 minutes before I had to actively call over the waiter since he was quick to jump on a group of guests who arrived a long time after we seated our selfs (keep in mind we were seen coming in and not like we sneaked in the back door). When I told him my order he said we are now sold out of gipfeli since the woman who came in with the group ordered the rest in the cabinet. Despite waiting for over 10 minutes no consideration was taken or any alternatives offered, then after another 5 minutes or so our weak and lukewarm coffees were delivered without much care. I just wanted to pay and get out of there asap as it didn’t feel welcomed at all by the staff members, but once again we had to wait an absurdly long time for the waiter to notice and ended up having to get his attention while he walked past...

I rarely give five stars, but this restaurant has truly earned every single one. From the moment you walk in, the attention to detail is evident – the ambience is elegant yet understated, creating a refined atmosphere that invites you to slow down and savor the experience. The service is polished, attentive, and effortlessly professional – exactly what one hopes for at this level.

But the real triumph lies in the food. Each dish was a testament to culinary craftsmanship, with ingredients that were both fresh and thoughtfully sourced, prepared with precision and care. The flavor combinations were simply outstanding – bold in concept, yet perfectly balanced in execution. There was a clear narrative running through the menu, where texture, temperature, and taste came together in sophisticated harmony.

What stood out most was the confident restraint: nothing felt overdone, and every element on the plate had purpose. The creativity in pairing flavors and reinterpreting traditional elements into something modern and memorable was remarkable.

While the pricing is on the higher end, the experience delivered far more than just a meal – it was a genuine culinary journey. For those who value gastronomy as an art form, this place is a must.

I will gladly return, and recommend it to anyone who seeks more than just dinner – but a truly elevated...

The mood among the clients is always relaxed and joyful, and I feel genuinely cared for every time I walk in. The coffee is exceptional, the cakes and food are consistently top-notch — fresh, high-quality, and beautifully presented. Everything is incredibly hygienic and clean, and the soft classical music in the background adds a touch of elegance to every visit.
