A wonderful surprise in the midth of the gambling house in Montreaux. The Mountain Studio where The Queen group recorded many of their albums still have some authentic features like the control room with the dashboard, not the original though, as it was replaced so the visitors could give a try at editing some of The Queen songs. The Studio is on the 1st floor of the Casino building. The best is to enter from the street not the lake side as otherwise you will be required to show some identification document like passport. The exhibition contains memorabilia and things that were used or belonged to the group with the time line explaining their progress from 1971 when they purchased the Studio to 1993. The best part of it all are the instruments that the group used while recording, their scribblings of the songs they were composing and also three stage costumes of Freddie Mercury. You do get the feel of how it was when they occupied the studio. There are some wonderful quotes by the members of he group and some photographs too. Each album is presented in a separate display cabinet with the story of how it was made. The entrance to the Studio is free but there is a box where you can drop some donation from 1 franc up that will contribute to the Foundation of...
Read moreAn experience beyond experiences. It was like stepping into the life of the legend Freddie Mercury. The museum was intimate and alive. It was curated so well that even someone who wouldn't have a lot of understanding on the subject would still be able to participate and interact with the place. The highlight for me was the interactive soundboard, where we could manipulate different instruments, vocals et cetera, as if we were sitting and editing and composing the music along side the band ourselves. It was a surreal experience. 10/10 must visit.
p.s. When you step out, there is a statue at the lake front of Freddie Mercury in his iconic pose, and you would see that people from all walks of life, so many different races and cultures, come there to pay their respects. People write letters to him and put flowers near the statue. To many people, the work of Queen meant a lot more than just music. I am so glad and honoured to have visited this...
Read moreA small museum inside Montreux casino about queen and Freddy Mercury. If you are a Queen fan, it is a must.
On the museum you can find clothes used by Freddy Mercury, handwritten lyrics by Freddy and other members of queen. There is also a small movie that you can watch. The movie is on a loop and it last (18 minutes). The movie is about queen and the relationship with Montreux, particularly the studio and then the last days of Freddy. The museum was built on what it was a bar before and the studio has been kept on the original shape, with exception of the sound board that was replaced with a replica of the original but it was modified to make a small attraction were you can play like you are mixing 4 songs of queen (play with the volume of the different instruments and voices).
Also do not forget to visit Freddy's statue...
