Starbox Hostel — Hotel in Taipei

( + ) The hostel is fairly conveniently located, but there aren't many cafes or good restaurants nearby. I can only recommend the nearby night market. The beds were clean and fairly comfortable. The common area was spacious and had various types of tables and seating. Most of the staff (except one) were friendly and helpful.

( - ) There is no signage whatsoever on the outside of the building, so we had to use the photo on Google Maps to locate it, and even then, every single time you enter you have to ask the doorman (who doesn't speak a lick of English) to call the hostel so they can come down to the ground floor and fetch you. A pain for everyone involved.

Most of the staff were friendly and helpful as you'd expect from a youth hostel. With the exception of ONE female employee, who was obnoxiously loud every single night and wore clothing so short her buttocks were visible even when standing up straight (no, not in a good way).

The signs in the toilets tell you not to flush the toilet paper - okay fine, but then the staff need to empty the bins more regularly so they're not literally overflowing onto the floor with poopy paper!

There are aggressive signs about the place threatening guests with fines for things like washing clothes in the sink and wasting food/leaving leftovers. But I suppose the staff member who regularly stretched out across the floor in the hallway is fine?

The breakfast was completely inedible garbage. Even thought it was included in the cost, I couldn't bring myself to eat it after the...

I rarely write reviews, but this place really not recommended. Really the WORST hostel. The picture in agoda not really accurate, and don’t look at the picture on google review from 5/6 years ago because the place already different. 1.The hostel really really small, with a lot of guest maybe around 40 guest in that small place. 2.i can feel the bed not clean 3.the air conditioner really sucks, but i saw different room air conditioners running well 4.the bathroom, they welcome a lot of guest but they only provide like 2 bathrooms with really small space A lot of people in google review already warned you, please don’t make mistake to stay here like i did, before i book this hostel i didn’t see the google review and...

I stayed here for 2 nights. I had bad experience for overall. From check-in, I had to stay at ground floor for waiting someone to pick as security purpose. However, it took about 10mins to get in the elevator (you will have to face it every time once you are out of hostel). The staff was not well-trained for introducing the hostel environment. The room was clean but you can not rest at all. I meant the wall is not thick at all. You can hear some noises from the lobby or somewhere else. For restroom, it was so tiny and dark. And for breakfast, they served instant coffee, milk tea, lemonade with plain ham sandwich. Basically, I had better options to stay compared to this hostel...
