This have lately become my favourite area to hangout as well as to look for accommodation in Bangkok. If you want to explore Bangkok riverside and as well as making cheaper public rail connections to & from Suvarnabhumi Airport as low as 45 BHT per way (nearest BTS/Airport Link will be Phaya Thai station) . The pier is just 3 min walk from the BTS Saphan Taksin Station and there are a spectrum of accommodation to chhose from, anything from $30 to the 5 start chain hotels along the Chao Phraya riverside. 3 min walk you can also find a large Robinson Mall as well as many local eateries within 400 radius, even I see 3 x 7-Elevens...

Exit 2 for the ferry on the Chair Phraya River. Bottom of the stairs walk forward then left. There will be bigger, grand looking stalls with sexy female staff enticing you to purchase the fancy ferry (or catamaran boat) for the "all day" Wat Arun ticket at 200B or the single journey for 60B. What they don't tell you is that there is a smaller table/counter that's less sexy and glamourous in the far left of the pier station which is the government funded pier/ferry station selling tickets for the same route and direction but in a less fancy boat for 15-20B. Make...

The station is clean and has connectivity to many places. There are coin machines for tickets and ticket office to buy with currency notes. Points to note This station has 1 way track. So trains towards National Stadium and Bang Wa come at the same platform. You need to read the train board and listen to announcement to know where the train is heading to this is on dark green BTS line you can get down at sala-daeng for MRT si-lom you can get chao-phraya speed boat for asiatique you can go asok/sukhumvit by interchanging at SIAM...

I lived far from the Bangkok city center while growing up over there, but always ventured in on Bangkok's public transport system to get to the old/historic part of the city. I really enjoyed being able to ride the BTS to Saphan Taksin, then hop off to either grab a drink at Viva Aviv (at River City - Unit 118, 23 Trok Rongnamkhaeng, Yota Road, Talad Noi) or hop on the Chao Phraya River boat. For the latter, I'd ride the boat over to Wat Arun (Tha Thien stop) or even further down. Thanks for all the great memories!

The Transport Hub on the Bangkok side of the Chao Phraya River. The Silom BTS Line runs across the river from this station to the Thonburi stations and on the Bangkok side to National Stadium via Siam, where you switch to the Sukhamvit Line. The Chao Phraya Express boats run from the Central Pier under the station, as well as the IconSiam and Hotel shuttle boats. It is within 2 minutes walking distance to great street food and Charoen Krung Road. A very busy station, there can be delays as well as packed trains.

The station has so many interesting places nearby. You can use nearby boat transit to tour into Chao Phraya or simply use a free boat shuttle to iconsiam. Going north, there are a lot of restaurant and food stalls, several have Michelin restaurant. There is only 1 lane shared between train going to National Stadium and Bang Wa. There are instances where the train wait for another train going pass through this line. I think this is not a good design. Other things in the station are decent enough for me.
