Pullman Bangkok King Power — Attraction in Thanon Phaya Thai Subdistrict

I booked the hotel under the gov project. I originally contacted with K.TonPai who was professional and very keen to help. After he booked 2 rooms for my family and me I checked the booking and found that both rooms were upgraded to executive room so I told my family member that the hotel was very kind, so we all can spend a good time in the lounge together without one had to sacrifice. Later, when I checked in with Nan I found a lot of unprofessionally, started from the welcome drink only served for 2 even we have 3 (just a small glass of orange juice), later I was told that you can only access to the lounge, the rest can't. At that time I started to feel regretted and checked the booking in the system again, it was changed back to deluxe that we booked, no more upgrade and that's why we can't enjoy the lounge. So I decided not to go otherwise we would leave family member behind. I understand that it's hotel policy, but if I didn't see we were upgraded, we wouldn't be this regret. Later, the gov campaigns, we need to receive 2 VC per one room, we weren't provided even she could give plenty of other coupons from hotel and king power, how could she forget this? I need to call to reception and ask when I would get and I was informed that you need to receive it right away after you check in. So I was transferred to Nan again and asked when I will get this, she said you can get it now without saying sorry or any explanation. I would like to know from Nan "what are you going to do with the coupons if you don't give it to customers?, are you going to resell it for your own benefit?" It just made me think this way. Then, I told her that another (connecting) room would check in later, please open the connecting door first, you can give me key later. She seemed to understand but when I came down, the room wasn't finished and the housekeepers were having conflict where l whether it's finished. They said after it's finished would let me know. But after 2 hours I got no response and didn't hear anyone doing anything so I opened the door to the corridor and asked if it's done? They said yes but you need to ask the receptionist to inform me directly. Then I called the receptionist to inform her and I heard a call from her, then I asked if it's okay now. She said "no the receptionist missed understood, you need to tell them to come up and tell me by person, lots of them are new and difficult to understand things, many of times that they get on my nerves." So I told the receptionist to come up as she advise, I and the receptionist couldn't believe our ears hearing this from a housekeeper. Finally this thing done. In the next morning, I found unprofessional staff like much under trained, just grabbed the plates without asking, pulled chairs very loud on the floor to connect 2 tables instead of holding it up. Only one professional team is the restaurant at lunch time with K.Gift, she trained the trainee of every single step from taking order and how to serve and don't forget to tell what food they are serving and the taste of it before ordering. Apart from this, I regret the stay. I wouldn't consider paying full price for this kind of service of the hotel...

2 out of 10, because at least we got a good welcome at the hotel, Pullman Bangkok King Power. We booked for 3 nights stay in the Executive Room, in what we thought was a 5-star hotel that could offer amenities and services that matches its reputation.

Amenities were decent, what you'd expect of a usual 5-star hotel and according to whatever was listed on the website. Comfortable environment to stay in, breakfast was alright, nothing spectacular, though the privacy offered at the Executive Lounge on Level 20 was a nice touch. If you want to utilize the lounge at the airport, do REQUEST for it at the concierge as they will not take the initiative to tell you how.

Service for simple things were passable, and even though the hotel's laundry ruined my dress that I've only worn once, I wanted to take a step back and accept their apology letter -- which offered us complimentary dinner and spa, all of which we refused as we were leaving the next day and it's pretty pointless. The dress is no longer wearable as it was completely bleached and looks like it's gone through the dryer for too long -- absolutely damaged and I could only toss it.

The only compensation we asked for was airport transfer to the airport as we had an early 9am flight to catch, to which the Manager on duty happily agreed to and the only information she told us was that she will book the car for us when we are ready to leave, which we agreed to and that's that. Little did we know, when we were checking out, we were asked to pay for the REMAINING OF THE LAUNDRY THAT THEY DID NOT MANAGE TO RUIN, and when we said it's ultra bad taste to still require payment for the one piece of other laundry, after spectacularly damaging my dress that costs way more than this one piece of undamaged blouse. The staff then turned around to say, "oh, but we booked the hotel's private van transfer for you to the airport, and that costs 4,000 baht per trip, and we did not charge you for it."

1. we did not request for the hotel's private van. All the manager said was, "I'll book a car for you"-- to which we assumed it's just gonna be a regular ride on Grab.
2. what a terrible way to do service recovery. You've ruined my dress, I did not request for AN EXACT SAME PIECE to be compensated, and the hotel still demanded that we paid for the one blouse that they did not manage to ruin.

What a terrific way to make your guests feel absolutely terrible about the vacation/stay. Will try our best to avoid staying here again in the future.

If you still want to stay here, it is near to the shopping area - ICONSIAM, Erawan Shrine etc., and you can get there via Grab -- just be prepared to be in traffic jams all the time. Duration to airport is 30-mins when traffic is smooth; with jams, about 1.5...

The Pullman King Power (vicinity of Praya Thai BTS and Airport Link) seemingly caters to conventions and large corporate events as well as some personal travelers. Connected to the extensive King Power Duty Free outlet. Fairly modern hotel with international and Japanese dining options, large sized swimming pools and well appointed rooms (Executive Floors, can’t judge the other rooms).

Comparison to the Hilton Bangkok Grande Asoke which incidentally was a Pullman property until about 18 or so months ago and used to be my go to hotel in the city of angels (both are 5 star properties).

Location: Pullman King Power: ** (4) Hilton Grand Asoke: *(5) The Hilton wins this category hands down, 5 mins to Asoke BTS and Sukhumvit MRT whereas the Pullman is not bad, but the walk to the BTS is 10mins. This is important to me as I am a big BTS user in BKK, I hate the traffic jams and being stuck in Taxis for ages…

Rooms: Pullman King Power: * (5) Hilton Grande Asoke: ** (4) This is a closer call, as I like the layout of the Hilton rooms e.g. they have a large desk for getting work done. But the Hilton rooms are showing their age. And more importantly, there is a distinct lack to detail: e.g. there is no shoe horn or clothing brush. Admittedly first world problems, but then this is my expectation for a five star property.

Executive Lounge: Pullman King Power: * (5) Hilton Grand Asoke: * (5) Both lounges are great, and while the Pullman has a better offering of snacks (higher quality –e.g. the cheeses / warm options) and the service at both is fantastic as you would expect in Thailand, the Hilton benefits from the outstanding Khun Tan (no, she is not Chinese, this is the nick she goes by), Sara, Garfield and Ice. They ensure that the Hilton (albeit the weaker food choices) retains a 5 star rating in this category.

Breakfast: Pullman King Power: * (5) Hilton Grand Asoke: * (3) The spread at the Pullman King Power is what you would expect from a great breakfast buffet in Asia. The choices are extensive, there is a good number of helpful and exceptionally friendly staff – plain and simple 5 stars. The Hilton breakfast buffet is in not what I would expect from a breakfast buffet in Asia. The spread is quite limited and many of the dishes do not look inviting. While the staff are friendly and helpful it feels like there are far less than at the Pullman.

The location and the Executive lounge staff at the Hilton would be my key reasons for the Hilton, while the Pullman is more modern, better maintained and offers better food options (which in Bangkok with the vast amount of other food choices is not such of...
