Our room was charmless. It would have been better received if it was at least functional, but it wasn't. The larger two out of three windows were frosted glasss you couldn't see out of. One of these was the sliding door to the balcony which was locked. We enquired and balconies were out of commission and permanently locked. We had requested a room with a park view, but we couldn't see the park. Hotel reception insisted that was because it was too dark at 18:00. When the bellhop confirmed we we could not see the park because a tall row of conifers in front of the window blocked the view we were given a room on a higher floor, but only after being questioned if we had touched anything in the original room.
The new room also had mostly frosted glass windows and a non functional balcony. The sliding door of the closet didn't work so we just left it permanently open. The bathroom was badly designed. When you opened the door it hit the toilet, unless a travelling companion happened to be sitting on the toilet, in which case you hit their knees. The air conditioner was noisy and only had a few possible settings so we were usually too hot or too cold at night. The mattress was hard.
One night we requested a cab to Pratunum Market but were dropped off at Palladium Market instead. Admittedly, we were unsure whether the bellhop or cab driver was at fault. I went to the breakfast buffet after the first night, but after sampling from the Asian breakfast got diahrrea soon afterwards. This might be because went to breakfast late, near 10:00, where the Asian food might have been sitting around for hours being kept warm. My travelling companion stuck to Western breakfast and was fine.
The positives: the shower was hot and the water pressure was decent. The wifi worked, but did fall out occasionally. Some staff at reception was...
Read moreRooms smell a bit dank because the aircon is not the best (loud and old school with a dial). Free 2x glass bottles of water.
Shower water stopper is not the best, it keeps leaking water out into the sink/toilet area. Water pressure is great but you can feel the change in temperature and pressure easily if adjoining rooms are using the toilet, shower or tap. Hairdryer and soap/shampoo only available. Replenished the toiletries (toothbrush & paste, cotton buds, shower cap) if you put the “make up room” sign on the door.
They only gave us one toilet roll on our check in (not even brand new), have to keep asking for refill (only one cleaner left a spare one to change when the roll was half-used).
Loud neighbouring guests can be heard walking in the hall/if their door is left open (beeping sound) through our closed door.
Buffet style Breakfast is free from 6:30-10am, options are repetitive each morning (salad, rice, chicken sausage, breads, congee (fish, seafood, squid), chicken soup, fruit (dragon fruit, watermelon or rockmelon), etc) and the taste is so-so. They have an egg cooking station and offer omelette, scrambled or fried (also 2 types boiled eggs) but I find they like to undercook the fried eggs.
Airport taxi is 500 ฿, it’s pretty much a Grab taxi, about 20 ฿ difference in pricing.
Evening concierge guy on 31/10 was very nice! We are sorry we couldn’t tip him on the first day (no cash out) or before we left (morning, he wasn’t working). Check in lady gave standard service hence why we did not feel like putting tip into tip box.
Overall, good price for location and quality if you book in advance (we booked 3...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Picnic Hotel and think it’s an ideal place for travelers who are looking for something affordable without compromising on certain factors like cleanliness or location! This 3* hotel is definitely better than most options you’ll find in this category, mainly because the rooms are clean and spacious, and if you are a budget traveler, backpacker, coming in a group trip or family and want to keep accommodation costs down then definitely choose this hotel! The room is equipped with everything you may need to spend your time in Bangkok nicely and their location is also very nice as its very close to the BTS station which is the public transport network consisting of the sky trains in Bangkok! They also have great food promotions that are affordable and the quality of food is also very good. I tried a few things and think it’s quite decent and well worth the price! The breakfast menu is also quite extensive and freshly prepared and all the staff members are friendly and ready to assist every guest at all times! Their room types are better than any other places you’ll find in Bangkok for this price range and the area it is located in is decent as well which is not always the case if you seek out a 3* hotel usually. You can walk to many retail and recreational areas, restaurants and cafes and overall it’s a fairly decent and lively location! Would definitely recommend it to everyone looking for very good 3* hotels in the capital city...
