Walls of Constantinople The Walls of Constantinople are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the city of Constantinople (today Istanbul in Turkey) since its founding as the new capital of the Roman Empire by Constantine the Great. With numerous additions and modifications during their history, they were the last great fortification system of antiquity, and one of the most complex and elaborate systems ever built.

It's really up to the viewer to make something of the visit. My husband was thrilled with the ability to be that close. The decay allows for a person to easily climb up and walk astride the ancient walls. If you want a written or verbal description or context, forget about it. This is an unadorned ruin with trash surrounding the immediate environs.

It's truly disheartening to witness the neglect of these remarkable artifacts. The Byzantine walls in Istanbul hold immense historical and cultural significance, serving as a tangible link to the city's past. These ancient fortifications once safeguarded the city and its inhabitants, and their preservation is crucial for future generations to understand and appreciate Istanbul's rich history. It's imperative that efforts are made to protect and maintain these invaluable relics for years to come. I am giving 5 stars so that people visit...
