St John The Evangelist's Church — Attraction in Bath

Built between 1861 and 63 by Charles Hansom who's brother Joseph built Arundel Cathedral and the pair of them built Plymouth Cathedral together is another example of Victorian genius . Outside it is lovely and just gets better once you enter , although I believe that Pevsner bloke disagrees with me . St John The Evangelist Church stands proudly on the banks of the River Avon in Bath. The church was designed and built between 1861-1863 by Charles Francis Hansom. The walls are of Bath stone. The church's 222-foot (68 m) spire that dominates the city's skyline was added by Hansom in 1867. The building was bombed in 1942: four people died and the south aisle was destroyed, but subsequently rebuilt in a similar Gothic style.
