Derwent water is so close to the town centre and just a short 10 min stroll from the main square and through a lovely park area. Lots to see and do on route and great for dog walkers. You can walk around the edge of the lake on a walking trail, and on good days, boat trips are offered. No prices as did not investigate as none operational. Guess that is weather permitting as we went on a bank holiday and no boats operational that day as the weather was a bit unreliable and lake surface a bit choppy. It definitely had a real Swallows & Amazon's feel to the Lake as it has the stunning island within a sailing distance. I definitely felt this vibe while we were sitting looking at the lake view, and memories from reading the book in my childhood came flooding back. A lovely few hours spent here. We are not hikers, so we can not comment on the access to the walking routes, but for a nice mooching wander to edge of lake and potentially a picnic, it's perfect. In addition to Derwent Water, Keswick was not disappointing. What a truly fantastic town within the Lakes. A must visit place. Lots of old buildings and great pubs that serve food and drink to the tourists. A great fish & chip shop in the centre of town which sells cones of chips which were very popular. I've not seen cones of chips for 20 years or more! There are a lot of great gift shops plus regular retailers. The town was kept so clean and well maintained. Easy parking is close to town and not expensive. Found it a bit confusing getting into the correct parking area as sat-nav kept directing us down a pedestrian area?? Derwent water is so close to the town centre, making the town so lovely to spend a few lovely hours of relaxation. Keswick certainly...

Read moreWhat an incredibly bearish place to visit, I canoed around Derwent water and over to st Herbert’s island..
The island was amazing but there was definitely signs of people being there before we arrived to the point they some idiots had left a fire still smouldering.. needless to say we put it out.
The island is full of yes and holly trees which are toxic even when burning so I’m not sure why you would want to use them as fuel for a campfire anyway 😳🤷🏻♂️..
The views from the water when paddling round are breathtaking…. This won’t be the last time I visit that for certain..
However if you go… always use the “leave no trace” rules.. because places are better when you visit and there is no trace of anyone else being there… it adds to the...
