The four of us visited LRB for a late morning breakfast.
We ordered three LRB breckies and a pancake. The LRB Breckie is their equivalent of a full English breakfast and it was pathetic. To describe it as a half English would be too generous.
One single thin fatty strip of bacon was given⊠but you can buy extra for ÂŁ3! The bread was stale at one end and was a battle to bite and cut through it. You get one sausageâŠâŠ one thin sausage. A pot of bland beans and one egg cooked to your liking. For ÂŁ12 we were miffed, a total rip off. The hot chocolate was tasty and we were happy with the mimosa and breakfast tea but youâd struggle to go wrong with these. The pancake was good and Iâd like to shine the spotlight on the only aspect of our experience we enjoyed. I canât help but think this place is suffering from the âKeswick syndromeâ where an establishment gets more credit and recognition than they deserve.
I need to mention the staff because most of them made the whole experience buzzard and uncomfortable. The young lady with the black hair was brilliant, friendly and courteous and we found her to be the anomaly compared to the other two blokes. They strutted about the place being very loud and obnoxious. The bald one was singing loudly behind the bar and even at our table as he served us, we came for breakfast not a poor rendition of every song that you play on your speakers. If you have a flair for karaoke save it for the weekend, donât obnoxiously sing and shout loudly to each other and think that customers want to listen to you. You may think youâre entertaining but youâre not. It was all just a bit revolting and we struggled to hear each other over the staff and the music. The cherry on the overpriced cake was the incident at the toilet. As my partner waited outside the toilet in the narrow corridor which is between the kitchen and the dining area the male staff kitchen member with the short dark hair flushed the toilet and swung the door open so fast he nearly hit her and the baby with the door causing her to jump back. Not even an acknowledgment or an apology before he scurried off on to the kitchen. She then entered the messy bathroom to find heâd left the toilet seat up and flies were buzzing around. This is not the LRB experience we expected.
We were deeply disappointed with our experience at LRB. There are plenty of better places to spend your hard earned money and we wonât be making this...
Read moreSmall busy cafe with a slightly trendy vibe and friendly staff. We arrived with high hopes after reading the enthusiastic reviews, maybe that worked against our experience a little. The staff were friendly and the food quite nicely presented but looked better than it tasted overall, and given the higher than average prices I would say it was okay rather than great. Things that could have been better: the homemade potato hash is more like an onion bhaji, which upset my onion-hating partner (maybe mention the onion on menu as not normally an ingredient of potato hash), tea arrived not very hot, while the gravadlax was tasty, the toasted bread was so rock hard I couldn't cut it. My partner is admittedly a fussy eater but was very unimpressed with his breakfast overall. As serving staff asked how it was I mentioned the hard toast and was given 10% off the bill. So I feel a bit mean leaving only 3 stars, but reviews are meant to give a realistic picture and I feel the current 4.9 rating isn't entirely deserved (yet). I also had a quite horrible experience of someone walking in on me in the toilet when my trousers were down due to a faulty lock on the toilet (it falls open again after you have locked it). This was after I had walked in on a man who didn't explain why he'd not locked the door. When I reported it to a young attendant she said it was being fixed but I felt it should have been attended to immediately in some way due to potential distress to diners, and she could have at least pretended to be...
Read moreThis would be our 3rd time. Ate here twice and tried some items on the menu. Not all good - English breakfast was so so; salted beef bagel (corned beef) so so; special pancake nothing special, lamb kofta was too sour. My kids liked the shakshuka, and croque madame. Our last day at lakes, we drove 1 hr to make there at 250pm (close at 3pm) because our kids want to eat the two things they liked. Along the way, my kids were worried we couldnât get there before 3pm. We did get there 10 mins before kitchen stops taking orders. We were told âsorryâ as they only had table for 2 . I told the waitress that we were traveling back oversea tomorrow and we just drove here because my children would like to have a meal. I asked âcan I do take out?â âNo, we donât do it because kitchen is busyâ (I canât imagine that is a valid reason since we are the last customers of the day). I saw there are tables outside (there was not raining at that time) âcan we sit outside?â âNo, we donât serve food in the rainâ. There are empty tables - just not having one big enough for 4. My kids got embarrassed abt their mom trying to get us in. They asked me to go somewhere else. We come back lakes every year. I am sure they are not lack of business which could explain the attitude. They wonât have our...
